Wolfenstein 3D — Level Walkthroughs

You've learned how to play, what you'll encounter, and everything else you need to know. Now it's time to play!

Select New Game from the main menu and choose your episode. Episodes 1 through 6 get progressively harder, so it's recommended to play them in order. Once you've selected your episode, choose your difficulty level. All strategies in this walkthrough are based on Bring 'em On difficulty. Enemy placements on the maps reflect Death Incarnate difficulty.

You don't have to follow these routes exactly. If you're low on health or ammo, or simply want to explore, go right ahead. Each level has plenty to discover.

A few terms used throughout this walkthrough:

  • Room — a room.
  • Corridor — a narrow, winding hallway.
  • Hallway — a long, stretched room connecting two or more areas.

Episode 1: Escape from Wolfenstein

Deep in the belly of a Nazi dungeon, you stand over a guard's body and grab his gun. You're not sure if the others heard his muffled scream. Armed with only a knife, a pistol, and your wits, you must escape.

Weeks ago, you were sent on a vital reconnaissance mission — to infiltrate the Nazi fortress and find the plans for Operation Eisenfaust. You were captured and thrown into prison, awaiting execution. Only you know where the plans are kept. The Allies will face defeat if you don't escape Castle Wolfenstein.

Record time for this episode: 5:20, set by John Romero on Bring 'em On difficulty.

Note: No silver key is required to complete any level in Episode 1.

Level 1

Designer: Tom Hall?

Your very first level. A straightforward introduction to the game.

Points of Interest

  • Don't forget to kill the guard near the start and grab his ammo — you only begin with 8 bullets
  • A secret room contains ammo, first aid kits, and the Machine Gun
  • The secret room also gives you access to the episode's secret floor (see Secret Level)

Walkthrough

You start in a cell with a dead guard in front of you. Walk forward and open the door to leave your cell. Turn right — a guard is standing there. Kill him and collect his ammo. Pick up any food if you need health, then head back to the cell hallway and through the door ahead.

You'll enter a large room with one or two guards — kill them and move into the wooden-walled area. Inside is a hallway with two smaller passages branching off. Kill the guard, then turn down the left passage. Another guard is there — shoot him. Now walk up to the Hitler portrait on the wall and push it to reveal a secret room containing the Machine Gun. Grab it. Exit the secret room and leave the main area the opposite way you entered.

You'll enter another room with guards. Kill them. You have two options — left or right door. Going right leads to treasure and points. Going left continues the level.

Heading left, you'll enter a small hallway. Continue through it, killing guards along the way. The next room has guards and some treasure — collect it, then head out through a short hallway into a large square room with two doors. Go straight ahead into a large hallway that may have several guards. Kill them, then turn left down the hallway, enter the door, and there's the exit.

Secret Level Access: When you first enter that large square room, turn 90 degrees right and push the wall directly in front of you. When you enter the secret room, do the same again. This takes you to the room with the secret elevator. All walls with pushable sections are marked with white squares on the map.

Level 2

Designer: Tom Hall?

A straightforward level with one notable highlight — the first appearance of the Chaingun.

Points of Interest

  • A secret room contains the Chaingun
  • This level requires a key to exit — don't forget to pick it up

Walkthrough

You start in a small hallway with a door ahead and one to the left. Skip the left door and go forward. Kill the guard in the room, turn the corner, and go through the next door into a large hallway. Run straight to the door at the end and enter.

You'll be in another hallway with guards. Turn left and enter the door in the blue-brick section. Inside is a small hallway with two side passages. The left passage has a guard and some ammo — collect it. Then look at the second brick in that passage — it's a secret wall. Push it to reveal the Chaingun. This weapon will serve you very well from here on.

Exit the secret, leave the room the opposite way you came in, and head left at the hallway split. Continue forward into a large room — this is your first encounter with SS guards. Always avoid getting too close to them, as they deal heavy damage at close range. This is where the Chaingun proves its worth. Mow down all the enemies.

Turn right past the hallway on your left and find a door. Open it — an SS and a Guard are protecting the Gold Key. Grab it and head back. Continue through the large room, turn the corner left, and clear the side room with guards and treasure. Return to the main hall, enter the locked door, deal with the remaining guards, and find the exit.

Level 3

Designer: Tom Hall?

A standard level with one key to find.

Points of Interest

  • Don't forget to grab the key to exit the level

Walkthrough

You start in a room with two small side hallways. Turn the corner and head left through the door. Head right into the prison area. Kill the guards, then open the third door on the left — inside you'll find the Gold Key. Grab it and leave the prison area.

Head left down the hall and enter the first door on your left. You'll be in a large hallway — kill the guards and go all the way to the end. Take the last door on your left. Inside is a room with guards — kill them, then go through the door on your left into another hallway. Take the door ahead and to your left, where a guard and the locked door are waiting. Enter the locked door, turn right around the corner, and be careful — a few guards may sneak up on you. Find the elevator from here.

Level 4

Designer: Tom Hall?

A personal favorite. Guards can sneak up on you constantly here, so stay alert. The Chaingun makes its first non-secret appearance in this level.

Points of Interest

  • The Gold Key is in a guarded room — watch out for SS
  • The Chaingun appears out in the open for the first time, guarded by SS

Walkthrough

You start in a small room. Exit and turn right — you'll see guards and a door. Go through into a large intersection room. Continue straight through the next door into another intersecting hallway room. Turn left and go through the door down the hall. Inside is a room with several guards and the Gold Key. Grab it and leave.

Head straight down the hallway and through the door. You're in a big room — guards will start coming thick and fast now, so stay ready. Go straight and enter the first door on your right in the blue-brick area. SS guards are inside — deal with them carefully. Here you'll find the Chaingun. Grab it and head back out.

In the large room, head diagonally right to a grey-brick area. Inside is a wooden-wall island shaped like a swastika from above. Find the door inside that doesn't lead back to the main room.

Through that door is a large hallway. Turn left and go through the door. Inside you'll find treasure and guards — kill the guards and continue through the next door into another large room. Go to the end, through the door, then run directly behind the island in that room. Go around it to find the elevator.

Level 5

Designer: Tom Hall?

A standard level. Nothing unusual.

Points of Interest

  • Pick up the key

Walkthrough

You start in a small room. Go through the door ahead. You'll be in a room with a large red-brick island in the middle — guards are here, so be careful. Head right into the wooden-walled area, then right through the door into a small room. Continue through two more small rooms, go down the hall, and turn right through the door. Inside this room is the key and a few guards.

Once you have the key, head back to the blue-brick room with the red-brick island. Go around the island through the door opposite the wooden-wall area. Head down the hall, turn left, go through the door, and navigate around the oil barrels. Through the next door, turn right and go forward to the door down the hall.

In this room, go through the door into another room with guards and the locked door. Enter it to reach a room with wooden-wall islands in the middle — and the elevator. Be very careful here. Guards hide behind the islands and can be hard to spot. Make sure you've killed all of them before you head for the elevator.

Level 6

Designer: Tom Hall?

A longer level. You'll spend most of your time in red-brick areas.

Points of Interest

  • The key to exit is here

Walkthrough

You start in a room with a wooden-wall island in the middle. Kill the patrolling guards, then go through the door into a long room — remember it as the I Room because it resembles the letter I from above. You'll need to return here later.

When you first enter the I Room, turn right and go down the hall through the door. Turn right again and head down the hallway. Take the second-to-last door and go through the room to another door. Enter the next hallway, go straight and around the corner to the left until you see a door. Enter it, turn right, and go all the way down the hall into the wooden-walled area.

Inside are several dogs and the Gold Key at the far end. Grab it, then head all the way back to the I Room.

This time, cross directly to the opposite side of the I Room and enter the door offset in a small corridor. Go all the way around to the right and enter the door. There's the elevator.

Level 7

Designer: Tom Hall

A well-designed level that would make an excellent deathmatch map.

Points of Interest

  • Pick up the Gold Key

Walkthrough

From your starting position, turn 90 degrees left and go around the island right next to you. You'll find a hallway opening. Inside are two doors at opposite ends. Head toward the unlocked door and go down the hallway. Through the door ahead, turn right and go through that door.

Inside the room, head right and around the corner into the grey-brick room. Collect the Gold Key. Now head all the way back to the hallway with two doors at each end. Enter the locked door this time, turn the corner, go down the hall into the grey-brick area, and find the elevator.

Level 8

Designer: Tom Hall?

The final level before your escape from Castle Wolfenstein.

Points of Interest

  • Don't forget the Gold Key

Walkthrough

From your starting room, go straight through the door. Don't move — fire your weapon. A guard behind the island will alert. Kill it, then turn right and kill the guard in front of you, then the one behind you.

Head out the door on the right side of the room. Go down the hall, around to the door at the end. Inside, look for a wooden-wall area and enter the first door you see. The key is here along with one or two SS guards. Grab the key and exit. Turn right, go through the door next to where you came in.

Continue through a sequence of small rooms and doors. Enter the room with the two gold swastikas on the door, then through the next door and the one after that. Turn right through a door, go to the end of the hall, through the locked door, and into the elevator.

Hans Grosse — Boss Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

The showdown with Hans Grosse, the man behind Castle Wolfenstein.

Points of Interest

  • Hans Grosse is waiting at the end of the main hall
  • A large secret room with health, ammo, and a Chaingun — your lifeline for this fight
  • The exit to freedom once Hans is defeated

Walkthrough

You start in a small room. Go through the door into a large hall — this is your battlefield. Run to the end of the room and open the door. There he is — Hans Grosse.

Once you've alerted him, run back into the large hall. On one of the walls is a row of banners — the middle golden banner opens a secret room packed with health, ammo, and a Chaingun. Save this room for when you're running low during the fight.

Fighting Hans Grosse

The large hall has several islands you can use for cover. Two effective strategies:

  • Hide and shoot — get behind an island, fire a burst, then take cover again. Repeat
  • Strafe and back away — move right up to Hans, then slowly back directly away while firing continuously

Always keep moving — a moving target is much harder to hit. Once Hans is dead, pick up the Gold Key he drops. Head back to the room he came from, enter the locked door, and run to freedom.

Secret Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

A longer secret level set mostly in purple slime areas. Take your time — you don't need to rush. Explore and find secrets for extra points.

Points of Interest

  • Grab the Gold Key

Walkthrough

From your starting room, head down the hall and turn left. Go around the corner to the left, down the hall, turn right, and through the door. Note this room — you'll need to return here.

Turn left around the corner and enter the door on that wall. Head down the hall, around the corner to the right, and enter the first door you see. Turn left and enter the blue-brick area. Go to the end of it and through the door. Turn right around the corner, then left around that corner. Go through the door, turn right, and the Gold Key is at the end of the hall. Grab it, then return to the room you noted.

Enter the room and go straight forward, then right through the door. Head right around the corner and go to the split in the path. Do not take the path toward the wooden-walled area — go left instead. Through the door at the end, go all the way down the hall to the grey-brick area.

Continue through the grey-brick area into a hallway, then turn right around the corner into the red-brick area. Go through the locked doors. Inside are two elevator doors. Take the door on the left when you first enter — the door on the right is full of SS.

Episode 2: Operation: Eisenfaust

You escape the castle and make contact with the Underground. They confirm the rumors: hideous human experiments have been spotted around Castle Hollehammer. Operation Eisenfaust is real.

The mad scientist Dr. Schabbs has been reanimating dead soldiers, turning them into mindless, near-indestructible mutants. If he succeeds, his army could threaten the entire world. You must travel to Castle Hollehammer and stop him.

This is the only episode in the game where mutants appear.

Level 1

Designer: Tom Hall

Your first encounter with mutants. From this point on, stay alert at all times. Mutants are fast, aggressive, and deadly — they can kill you before you have time to react.

Points of Interest

  • A vital supply room with ammo and a Machine Gun
  • The secret exit to the secret level is also accessible here

Walkthrough

From your starting room, go straight through the door. Go around the red-brick island in the next room and through the door ahead. This room contains critical supplies — grab the Machine Gun and all the ammo. Head back out.

In the main room, turn right from the supply room. The room splits three ways. Heading right takes you to the level exit. Heading left takes you toward the secret level.

To beat the level: Head right, go around the small island, turn right and then forward at the crossing, around the island, down the winding hall, around the corner, and into the room at the end. Watch out for mutants. Use the pistol to run if needed, or the Machine Gun if you have it. Find the elevator.

To reach the secret level: Head left at the split into a room with two doors. Beware the mutants. At the back of the room on the right wall, push walls until you find a secret. Inside are first aid and ammo. Continue pushing walls to find the secret elevator.

Level 2

Designer: Tom Hall?

Back to more familiar territory, away from the mutants for the most part. A fairly standard level with one notable feature — you must push a secret wall to progress.

Points of Interest

  • The Gold Key is here

Walkthrough

From your starting room, go forward. Navigate around the small steel island and through the door down the corridor into the wooden-wall area. You'll need to push a secret wall to continue — push the wall with the cross on it. From this room, enter the red-brick area.

Go straight through the door in front of you. Turn right and you'll see two doors. Take the left one. Go through the door in this room, turn right all the way around the corner, enter that door, and pick up the Gold Key. Head back to the wooden-wall area.

When you re-enter, go through the door on your left. Head through the next door into a blue-brick area with three paths. Take the one directly ahead. In the next small room are three doors — all lead to the same place, but SS guards are waiting on the other side.

After dealing with the SS, head down the hall. At the split, go right. Follow the corridor, turn left, and continue to a wooden-wall area with a locked door. There's also a secret nearby with a first aid kit and a Chaingun if you want to look for it.

Enter the locked door and find the elevator.

Level 3

Designer: Tom Hall?

This level introduces the Silver Key for the first time. From here on, you'll often need to find two keys to exit a level.

Points of Interest

  • The Gold Key is in a closet
  • The Silver Key is guarded by mutants — proceed with extreme caution

Walkthrough

You start in a long hallway. Turn right and head down the hall — be careful, an SS may sneak up from behind. Turn left around the corner, down the hall, left again, and through the door. In this room with three doors, turn left and enter. Take the right door inside, then open the wooden closet to find the Gold Key.

Return to the three-door room and go straight through the door. You'll be in a room with three locked doors. Take the right door, go down the hall through its door, and into a room with two paths. Take the right door. Go all the way around the right corner behind you and enter one of the two doors.

Inside is a room with the Silver Key at the far end and eight small corridors on the sides. On Bring 'em On, mutants lurk in the first, second, and last pair of corridors. On Death Incarnate, every corridor has one.

Strategy: Walk very slowly toward the Silver Key just enough to make each mutant notice you, then back up and wait for them to come to you. Kill each one before proceeding. Once all mutants are dead, grab the Silver Key.

Return to the three-door room. Take the Silver Key door on the right, go through the room, and into the elevator.

Level 4

Designer: Tom Hall?

Mutants may appear without warning here, so stay extra alert at all times.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here
  • Silver Key is here
  • A secret room contains food and a Chaingun

Walkthrough

From your starting position, go straight through the long corridor into a circular-shaped room with an island in the middle. Go around the island either way and grab the Gold Key. Head back through the corridor.

At the end of the corridor, turn left around the corner to an area with several doors. Enter one of the two farthest doors on the left side. Head down the small hallway into a large room with the Silver Key at the far end.

Warning: The moment you make noise, mutants will pour in from all the side rooms. If you want the Chaingun, take the middle door on the left side of the room to find a secret wall leading to it. Otherwise, just grab the Silver Key quickly and leave. Head back to your starting position.

From the start again, head left to another group of doors. This time take the farthest door on the right side. Go down the corridor, through the locked door, down the hallway, through the second locked door, turn left, and into the elevator.

Level 5

Designer: Tom Hall?

The entire layout of this level is shaped like a swastika from above — all four wings must be visited.

Points of Interest

  • Get the Silver Key first
  • A room with a Chaingun out in the open — guarded by SS
  • Get the Gold Key and head for the exit

Walkthrough

The wing you start in has nothing of interest. Head down the hall, turn left, go to the end, and enter the door. You'll be in a small room with three doors plus yours, each leading to a different wing. One is locked.

Red-brick wing: Enter it and either go through the first door on the right — which leads to a Chaingun and plenty of ammo, guarded by SS behind steel islands — or head straight down the hall, turn right, go to the last door, and find the Silver Key guarded by mutants. Grab it and return to the central room.

Blue-brick wing: Head down the hall, turn right, go to the end, and take the first two of the last four doors. These lead to a long room with the Gold Key. Grab it and head back.

Locked wing: Go down the hall, around the corner, and enter the second-to-last door. Open the locked door, turn right, and find the elevator.

Level 6

Designer: Tom Hall?

A somewhat maze-like level. Enemies can sneak up on you unexpectedly. No Silver Key required to exit.

Points of Interest

  • Grab the Gold Key

Walkthrough

From your starting position, head forward down the hall as it curves. At the end you'll reach a split in the path — remember this split. Take the door on the right. Head into the corridor on your left, go down it to the small junction, turn right, go to the end, and through the door. Take the door on the left inside the small room. Kill the mutants and go through the door ahead. Turn right down the corridor and into the first door you see.

Once you open this door, do not fire your weapon. Head down the corridor into the grey-brick room. The Gold Key is in the center. Now return to the split you noted earlier.

At the split, this time go through the door ahead — or to the left if you're thinking of your original approach. Leave the hallway and enter the blue-brick area. Turn the corner and you'll see three doors. Take the door on the right wall. Be careful of enemies hiding here. Go through the locked door, down the hall, through the door, and into the elevator.

Level 7

Designer: Tom Hall?

Perhaps the strangest level in the entire game. The exit is just seconds from the start, but most of the level is hidden inside a secret.

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key is here — grab it first
  • A secret opens up the rest of the level if you want to explore

Walkthrough

From your starting room, turn right, grab the Silver Key, then return to your starting room and enter the locked door. There's the elevator.

If you want to explore the rest of the level, turn left in the final room and push the eagle statue to reveal the hidden section.

Level 8

Designer: Tom Hall?

This level is famous for containing the Aardwolf Maze, home of the legendary "Call Apogee Say Aardwolf" sign.

Points of Interest

  • Get the Silver Key before going for the Gold Key
  • The Gold Key is here
  • The Aardwolf Maze — enter at your own risk

Walkthrough

From your starting position, you should see the entrance to a wooden-walled area directly ahead. Ignore it for now. Turn 90 degrees left and head down the hall, following it until it T-junctions. Turn right and enter one of the last two doors. In this small room, take the middle or left door. At the end of the hall are two locked doors — skip them and take the last unlocked door to find the Silver Key.

Head back to the wooden-walled area. Enter it and go straight through the locked door, then through the two doors on the left, and grab the Gold Key. Be very careful — SS can appear from anywhere in this area. Exit the entire wooden-walled area.

When you exit, head left around the island and down the hall. When you reach the area with bowls on the ground, you can either:

  • Turn right and push the wall behind the second bowl to enter a secret. From inside, push walls in the corners, then the wall to the right. You'll reach a slightly larger room with two signs at the far end. Push around the end wall to enter the Aardwolf Maze. This is an extremely difficult maze filled with Hans Grosse enemies. Navigate it successfully and you'll find the legendary sign. The route through the maze is for you to discover yourself.
  • Or simply continue down the hall, enter the locked door, and take the elevator.

Dr. Schabbs — Boss Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

The final showdown with Dr. Schabbs. Stop him, or the world falls to the Nazi mutant army.

Points of Interest

  • One secret has health — open it
  • Another secret has ammo and a Chaingun — open it
  • Dr. Schabbs himself — defeat him to complete the episode

Walkthrough

From your starting position, go through the door into a large room with a big island in the middle. Before doing anything else, open the two corner secrets:

  • Right corner — health
  • Left corner — ammo and a Chaingun if you don't already have one

Fill up completely. Then go around the island and through the door with warning signs next to it. Enter Schabbs' room carefully — mutants are inside and they can kill you fast. Clear the mutants first. Then run to the back of the room, where Schabbs will see you.

Fighting Dr. Schabbs

Schabbs is the toughest boss, but he can be beaten with patience. Strafe continuously to avoid the syringes he throws, and keep firing. Use the small islands in his room for cover, and return to the corner secrets whenever you need health or ammo.

Secret Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

A very easy level to exit, with most of the content hidden in secrets. Mutants are everywhere, so stay alert.

Walkthrough

Exit your starting room. From here you can either explore the level through its many secret doors, or turn slightly right, enter the door you see, and carefully navigate through the large room and the smaller room beyond it into the elevator.

Episode 3: Die, Führer, DIE!

You stand over Schabbs' body, satisfied that his hideous experiments are finished. His journals and equipment will be destroyed. Humanity is safe.

But the Nazi atrocities continue. Thousands march into death camps even as the Reich crumbles. There is only one way to stop the madness.

Hitler has fled to the Reichstag and hidden in his bunker. It is your job to find him and end his reign.

This episode introduces a new enemy type — the Officer. The secret elevator is located on Floor 7.

Level 1

Designer: Tom Hall?

Short and sweet, with the first appearance of the Officer. The levels in this episode have a more formal, grand feel — you're in Hitler's territory now.

Points of Interest

  • Grab the Gold Key

Walkthrough

Exit your starting room and head forward down the hall. It curves right and hits a door. Enter it into a room with a wooden-wall island in the middle. Go forward around the island and through the door ahead. Turn left, kill the guards, and grab the Gold Key.

Leave the room and enter the locked door in the main room. You'll meet your first Officer here — learn how he fights. After dealing with him, go around the island and into the elevator behind it.

Level 2

Designer: John Romero

A standard level. Get in, get the key, and get out.

Points of Interest

  • Grab the Gold Key

Walkthrough

Leave your starting room. You'll be in a room with multiple paths — remember this room. Turn all the way right, around the island, and through the door surrounded by Hitler portraits. You can take either path inside — both lead to the same place. Take the left path down the hallway, through the door, around the corner right, through another door, through a small corridor room, and through the final door. A few guards are inside, and so is the Gold Key. Grab it.

Return to the room you noted. This time head left around the bend and into the locked door, then to the elevator.

Level 3

Designer: John Romero?

A level with two keys to find.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here
  • Silver Key is here

Walkthrough

From your starting room you'll face three doors. Take the right door and follow the winding hallway into the next room. Turn all the way around to the right, walk down the room, grab the Gold Key, and head back to your starting room.

This time take the center door. Go through the small hall into the blue-brick area. You'll see a large room with a big wooden-wall island room in the middle. Follow the island's walls around until you find a door. Enter it, go through the small hallway, open the door at the end, kill the guards, and grab the Silver Key.

Leave the island and enter the locked door you should have spotted in the blue-brick area. Go through the second locked door and into the elevator.

Level 4

Designer: John Romero?

This level includes a rare moment where you must open a secret wall to continue.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here
  • Silver Key is here
  • A secret wall must be pushed to reach the exit

Walkthrough

From your starting room with two doors, take the right one. Inside the winding hall, take the door on the left into another hall. Go down to the right where the path branches, through the door at the end, and grab the Gold Key. Leave the room, turn right, and enter the locked door to find the Silver Key. Return to the winding hall.

Head left through the winding hall and through the door on the left. In this room with a wooden-wall island in the center, walk along the wall to the door on the right and go through. Head down the hall and around the bend to a two-way split — either way loops around the island to a locked door. Enter it.

Inside the locked room, it looks empty — but push the wall at the end to reveal a secret. Go either left or right (both wrap around an island), deal with the SS guards, and find the elevator.

Level 5

Designer: Tom Hall?

A fairly simple level once you know where to go.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here

Walkthrough

You start in a tiny corridor. Go left, down a small hall, into a larger room with columns. Be careful — a guard may sneak up behind you. Take the farthest door on the right side of the room — the one to the right of the locked door. You'll be in a room with a large red-brick island in the middle.

Find the small corridor inside the island with two swastika banners next to it. Inside, you'll face many doors — take the one with the lamp and swastika beside it. Keep walking, around the corner to the right, through the door, through this room, and to the Gold Key. Grab it.

Return to the room with the many doors. Take the middle door on the right wall to exit the island. Return to the column room, enter the locked door, and then find the elevator.

Level 6

Designer: Tom Hall?

This level has a shortcut using secrets that can save significant time.

Points of Interest

  • Only one key required — the Silver Key

Walkthrough

Go straight through the door, turn left, around the corner, and through the door there. Take the right door in the tiny room, go down the corridor, and through the door on the left. Turn right and push the wall with the swastika on it. Go through the door, grab the treasure, and look for a secret on the back wall. Inside you'll find the Silver Key and a door.

If playing on Death Incarnate — brace yourself when you enter this area.

Go through the door at the end of the hallway, then through the locked door. Head down the hall, turn right, through the door, left through another door, into the big room, and find the elevator.

Level 7

Designer: Tom Hall

A complex level with a large internal maze and a winding hallway — but actually quite simple to beat if you know the way. This level also contains the secret elevator to the Pac-Man level.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is at the end of the spiraling hallway
  • The secret elevator to the Pac-Man level is also accessible here

Walkthrough

Walk through the door in your starting room. You'll be in a spiraling hallway. Ignore the door on your left and follow the hall around each bend to a two-door split. Take the right door, grab the Gold Key, and head back around the hall. Take the door at the end of the spiral — not the left door, which leads back to your start.

In the next room you have two choices:

  • Left door — continues the level normally
  • Door ahead — leads to the secret Pac-Man level

To beat the level: Take the left door. Run to the door ahead as SS can see you through the columns. Clear the guards, go through the other door, fight the SS, then take either of the two doors, proceed to the end, turn left around the corner, go through the locked doors, and into the elevator.

To reach the Pac-Man secret level: Take the door ahead and go through the long corridor, turning right. Open the door, deal with the SS, and in the next room — which has many doors — go through the very last door on the right. Push the secret wall at the back, then in the larger room push another wall. Take either door. The next pushwall requires the map to locate — use it. Pick up the extra life in this room too. Once you find your way in, head through the treasure pile and into the side room with the oil barrels. You can't open the door with either key — instead, push the wall behind the small bowl or basket on the left. From there it's a large maze — use the map.

Level 8

Designer: Tom Hall

The last level before Hitler — and a tough one.

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key is here
  • Gold Key is here
  • One room is particularly dangerous — be extremely cautious and manage your health and ammo carefully

Walkthrough

In your starting room there is no door — push the wall between the two columns to reveal a secret. You'll enter a large swastika-shaped room. Turn right and head down that wing, killing guards carefully — there are just as many in the other wings. Enter the door on the right. Go straight and to the right, collecting the Silver Key. Head back through the wing, turn left at the intersection, and if you need ammo there's a room to the right. Continue down the wing and enter the door at the right end.

In this room with two small wooden islands, go straight into a small room, left into another, then through the next door. You'll be in a mazey area of steel-wall islands and oil barrels — use the map. Through the two doors ahead, be careful of guards. Turn right when you enter and go through the door. In the room with many doors, use the map to find the Gold Key.

With the Gold Key, return to the room before the door-filled hall. Head to the far end and open the door. Go through the corridor and enter any of the locked doors. The next room is very dangerous — many guards are here and they will sneak up on you. Use the red-brick islands for cover, and only collect health and ammo when you truly need it. Kill every single guard before moving on.

Once clear, go through the two unlocked doors into the barrel-maze area. At the end, open the locked door, fire one shot, then immediately retreat back through the maze into the big room in front of the two doors. Wait for the guards to come to you — it's much safer this way.

Once all guards are dead, go back through the maze, through the locked room, through another maze section, and into the elevator. Get ready for Hitler.

Adolf Hitler — Boss Level

Designer: John Romero?

The final showdown. You and Hitler. Everything is on the line.

Points of Interest

  • A secret room with health and ammo — save it for when you're running low mid-fight
  • The Gold Key is here
  • Adolf Hitler himself

Walkthrough

You start in a room with a Chaingun and ammo in front of you — this is its only appearance this episode. Fill up completely and go through the door.

You'll face Hitler's Ghost — another first for this episode. Strafe away from the wide spray of fire it shoots. After defeating it, push the wall with Hitler's portrait in one of the corners to find a secret room with backup supplies. Don't collect them now unless you're desperate — save them for the fight ahead.

Leave the secret room and go through either of the two doors into the wooden-wall area. Head straight through to two more doors and open one. In this longer room, clear a couple of guards and two more ghosts. Turn left to grab the Gold Key, then head back around to the locked door. Now get ready.

Fighting Adolf Hitler

When you first enter the room, run straight forward and turn right around the corner into a pool of ammo and health — kill the Officer here and load up. Then move into the main room and engage.

Use the steel-wall islands for cover. Hide when Hitler is firing, then blast him when he pauses between rounds.

Once his armour is destroyed, he'll become significantly faster. Return to your secret room for supplies if needed — Hitler may follow closely. Keep strafing, keep moving, and keep firing. He'll go down.

Pac-Man Secret Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

A faithful recreation of a Pac-Man level, complete with all four ghosts. The goal isn't really to win in a hurry — it's to enjoy this unique Easter egg.

Walkthrough

Use the map or explore freely. Avoid touching the ghosts, and don't miss the four extra lives hidden throughout the level.

Episode 4: A Dark Secret

Hitler has planned a new kind of war — the Giftkrieg. Rather than conventional weapons, he intends to use powerful chemical agents that could permanently cripple the Allies.

The location of the research laboratories has been identified. You must go there, destroy ongoing research, and eliminate the scientist behind the project — Otto Giftmatcher.

Level 1

Designer: Tom Hall

A level that mixes indoor and outdoor-style areas.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here

Walkthrough

You start in a large, formal room. Go forward, around the wall block at the end, and through the double doors. An SS is inside — kill it and collect the Machine Gun it drops, then leave the room. Turn right, go around the steel wall block, and through the door behind it.

Head into the red-brick corridor. Use the map to navigate and find the Gold Key. Once you have it, leave the red-brick area and cross to the grey-brick side room on the other side. Turn right and into the cave-like area. Follow the wall to the locked doors — use the map if needed — then enter the elevator.

Level 2

Designer: Tom Hall?

A fan favorite with a legendary super-secret room packed with goodies — but it's very well hidden.

Points of Interest

  • At this junction you can either go to the super-secret room or continue to beat the level normally — your choice
  • Gold Key is in a small closet
  • The super-secret room is here

Walkthrough

Head forward when you enter the level. Turn right and start heading down the hallway. When you reach the red-brick area:

To beat the level: Continue down the hallway. When the hallway branches to the side, enter the side section and use the map to navigate and find the Gold Key in the closet. Watch out for SS. Once you have the key, return to the main hallway, turn right, and continue until the first door on your right. Enter it, go through the room, into the wooden-wall room, and find the elevator.

To find the secret room: When you first enter the red-brick area, you'll see a room with three doors. Enter the door ahead. Push the gold swastika on the wall. From there, navigate through the system of secrets using the map. Be careful not to push wrong walls, or you'll block the path.

Level 3

Designer: Tom Hall?

A level with access to both the regular exit and the secret level.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here
  • A secret wall here provides access to the secret level

Walkthrough

In your starting room there's a wooden-wall island in the middle. Turn right and go around the island to the first door you see. Remember this room. Turn left through the door on the left wall. Go through the small room into a four-door junction. Take the left door, turn right down the corridor, right again, through the corridor to the first door on the left. Enter it, grab the Gold Key, then return to the room you noted.

This time take the first door on the left wall. Head down the hall and turn left to the locked door. In this room, walk down the hall as it opens up. Be careful — several guards can come at you here. The elevator is visible from here.

To reach the secret level: Head into the corridor opposite the elevator, into the grey-brick space. Turn left at the split, left again at the next, and right at the third. The wall you're heading toward has a pushwall somewhere on it. Push it, go through the door, and enter the secret elevator.

Level 4

Designer: Tom Hall?

Your starting room is shaped like a cross — explore each wing to progress.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here

Walkthrough

When you enter, turn into the left wing of the cross and through either of the two doors. You'll be in a square room with two doors on each wall. Enter the farthest door on the right wall. Go through the corridor, around the small steel block, and when the path splits go either way — it loops. Grab the Gold Key from the other side of the wooden-wall island, then return to the cross-shaped starting room.

Go straight across to the other wing and through the door. Turn left down the corridor into a room with several intersecting corridors — guards can come from everywhere here. If you can, just run through quickly to minimize damage. Turn at the third corridor to your right, pass another, and enter the elevator. Watch out for SS inside it.

Level 5

Designer: Tom Hall?

A large level with multiple areas to navigate.

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key is here — watch out for the SS guarding it
  • A small secret system leads to the Gold Key

Walkthrough

From your starting room, go straight forward. There's a secret Machine Gun in the wall to your right at the start — get it if you need it. Continue forward, turn right, and go through the room. At the small split, take the path away from the oil barrels. Head into the door ahead of you (not to the right), and in the room with six corridors, take the second one on the left. Through the door, turn right next to the island and go through the next door. Several SS are guarding the Silver Key here — grab it and leave.

Return to the room before the oil barrel path. This time, go through the oil barrel door and turn left at the split. Keep turning left as the corridor continues. When you see an area with multiple doors, take the second door on your left and follow the corridor all the way around. At the end, open the door to find a room with two elevators — ignore both, they're decoys.

Turn left at the end of the room and consult the map. Push the wall directly ahead of you to find a secret. Go through the next door, rush the wall by the barrel, and grab the Chaingun, Gold Key, and first aid. Leave the secret system, find the wall to the end of the room, and enter any of the triple doors.

Go around the red-brick islands into the outer hallway. Turn left, kill the guards, go to the end, and open the door on the right. Follow the winding corridor into the locked doors. Through the room and the second set of locked doors, find the elevator on the right.

Level 6

Designer: Tom Hall?

A level that feels like a continuation of Level 4 in structure.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key is here
  • Silver Key is here

Walkthrough

From your starting position, go straight into the corridor slightly to the left and head down it. Continue past the small section on your left. When the corridor opens into a larger room, turn right and cross to the other side into another corridor with regular gaps in the walls. Use the map to find the right door for the Gold Key, or explore the doors yourself. Once you have it, continue down the corridor in the same direction until you find a door near the corridor and a locked door right behind it.

Through the locked door are guards — clear them and go down the short corridor. At the split, go either direction — it's just a small island loop.

When you enter the wooden-wall area and get through the small wall-block room, turn left and around a corner. If you find the correct locked door, enter it. Go through the room, take the right door, go through that small room, and through the locked doors to find the Silver Key. Leave and return to the room using the map. Turn left around the corner, through the other locked door, through the small section, and into the elevator.

Level 7

Designer: Tom Hall

A level that relies heavily on secrets to progress.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

When you enter, you'll see a locked door directly in front of you. Remember this room. Turn left, around the corner, and into the door on the left wall. Go through the corridor into the larger room. Head left and push the eagle banner on the wall.

Inside the secret room, do not push the other eagle banner. Find a second secret wall, then a third in that next secret. Go through either of the two doors, deal with the Officers, and grab the Gold Key. When you leave the secrets and return to the small room, there's also a Chaingun available if you need it. Return to the remembered room and go through the locked door.

Go through this room (watch for guards) into the grey-stone area. Take the path directly ahead, slightly to the left. Go down the corridor, take either direction at the split, and turn around at the end to find the Silver Key. Go through the locked door, around the corner to the left, through the door, and into the elevator.

Level 8

Designer: Tom Hall?

A long, complex level with many routes and guard-filled sections.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • A side route here offers a Chaingun and large supply cache
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

When you start, Officers are in the room with you. Recommend going straight forward and collecting the ammo along the wall, then fighting from the corner. Once clear, head right and through the door. Navigate the winding path system, grab the Gold Key, and deal with the guards along the way. Return to your starting room, go around to the other side, and through the door there. Navigate the short winding hallway. At the end are two doors:

  • Door ahead — continues the level
  • Door to the right — leads to a strangely shaped room with a Chaingun and heavy supplies

Continuing the level: Go through the corridor and along the right wall (use the map). At the end of the wall is a secret — find and push it, then go through the locked door and through the unlocked door beyond. Turn left. At the split, turn left again, and use the map to find the door to the room with the Silver Key. Use the map to exit the blue-brick area.

Once through it, go straight forward. At the second corridor, turn right, through the locked door, and into the elevator. Watch out for SS inside it.

Otto Giftmatcher — Boss Level

Designer: Tom Hall

The scientist behind the chemical weapons program.

Points of Interest

  • A secret room holds two keys — much safer than the ones in the open next to a guard
  • Otto Giftmatcher himself — he has a rocket launcher. Strafe to avoid the rockets

Walkthrough

In your starting room are two doors. Take the right one, then go straight through the next door. In this room, do not fire your weapon. You'll see a guard standing next to two keys with two doors beside him — if you shoot, a wave of guards will pour out of those rooms. Don't try for those keys. Instead, find a secret on one of the walls — use the map to locate it. Inside the secret are two safe keys. Grab them and leave the way you came.

When you re-enter the previous room, turn right down the hall and through the door on the right. Walk forward into Otto's line of sight.

Fighting Otto Giftmatcher

His room has two locked doors:

  • Blue-brick door — ammo and a Chaingun
  • Red-brick door — health

Fill up on both before engaging. He fires rockets, so keep strafing. Use the wooden-wall islands for cover — hide and shoot when safe. Keep moving and fire steadily until he's down.

Secret Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

A bizarre level that functions essentially as one large trap. A specific path gets you through safely. If you make a wrong turn, there's a secret room with ammo to help you recover.

Points of Interest

  • A secret here has ammo if you need it

Walkthrough

Use the map to find the correct path, and run.

Episode 5: Trail of the Madman

The chemical weapons scientist is dead, but his work continues. The first wave of chemical warfare is already underway. In the heavily guarded fortress of Erlangen lie the plans for the Giftkrieg — the Poison War. Find them, and you'll know where to find General Fettgesicht, the man leading the assault.

Level 1

Designer: John Romero?

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here

Walkthrough

From your starting room, go through the door ahead and clear the guards. Take the door to the left of where you entered. Turn left down the long hallway to the very end, then through the door on the left. Go through this room into a three-door barricade. After opening the third door, be careful — an SS is waiting at the other end. Grab the Gold Key and treasure around the corner, then return to the big hallway.

Head all the way down the hallway again into the door at the far end. Clear the guards, go through the door, and enter a room with several doors and hidden side corridors — guards are down every one, and you'll likely be spotted immediately. Enter the door straight ahead into the blue-brick area. Turn left into the corridor, go through the locked door, and navigate this room carefully — guards surround you from all sides. Pull them into the center if needed, find cover, and clear them all. The elevator is here.

Level 2

Designer: John Romero

This level has a fun optional challenge — a gauntlet run of SS guards that you must sprint through to survive.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here

Walkthrough

From your start, turn left and keep turning until you see an opening in the wall. Go through it and enter the door on the left of the small room. Take the door on your left again. Go either way around the wooden-wall island, enter it, grab the Gold Key, and head back to your starting position.

From the start, go around the steel-wall island and through the locked door. Turn left, go through the door, turn left around the corner, and into the elevator.

Level 3

Designer: John Romero

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

From your start, turn slightly left and head down the hallway into either of the first two doors you see. Kill all the guards inside, then cross the room and take the door in the far-left corner from where you entered. Turn right around the corner inside and take the door at the end of the hall on the right. Grab the Silver Key.

Return to your starting position. The wall behind you at the start is actually a large island — go behind it, kill the SS, and go through the locked door into the elevator.

Level 4

Designer: John Romero

Every single room in this level has at least one guard and one dog. Looks straightforward — it isn't.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • A secret room full of health, ammo, treasure, and a Chaingun
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

From your start, go straight into the door ahead. Through the hall, into the blue-wall area. Turn left into the small room, through the door, then into the red-brick area. Grab the Gold Key. If you want, push the eagle banner in here to access a secret room with plenty of supplies.

Leave the red-brick area through the opposite door. Turn left down the hall into the blue-wall area. Go straight through the door, then through the locked door in that room. Collect the Silver Key. Continue around the outer edge of the level (use the map) to the other locked door. Enter the elevator.

Level 5

Designer: John Romero

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key (SK) is here
  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • A path to the secret level is available here

Walkthrough

From your start, face two doors and take the left one. Turn left at the split, then right, through any door you see. The room will be full of guards — clear them all and grab the Silver Key. Head back to your starting point.

On the way back, look for a locked door to the right of your starting point. Enter it. You'll reach a place where the path splits — head left. At the end of the hall you have two options:

  • Right — grab the Gold Key and return to complete the level
  • Push the corner wall — access to the secret level

To complete the level: Grab the Gold Key, return to the starting room, turn left, and go through the other locked door. Head down the red-brick hallway and into the elevator.

To reach the secret level: Enter the secret room — a large room with columns. Grab any supplies you want, then push the red swastika banner at the back to open another secret with a Chaingun, ammo, and treasure. Enter the secret elevator.

Level 6

Designer: John Romero

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

From your start, turn right and around the corner. Head down the hall into the door with columns and banners beside it. Go past the room through the door, then through the door on your right. Turn right into the winding corridor. At the end is a small room with the Gold Key — grab it. Head back out and turn left through the door. Cross the room, go through the door with eagles around it, then left through the locked door. Through the tiny corridor is a small room with the Silver Key.

Head back to the other locked door you would have passed while getting the Gold Key. Go straight across that room into the red-brick area and locked door. Follow the hallway to the end and into the elevator. Be careful — an Officer may be inside it.

Level 7

Designer: John Romero?

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

When you start, consider turning around — a Machine Gun is right behind you. Useful if you've lost yours. Now, leave the corridor into the larger cross-shaped room. Turn left, around the corner behind you, and through either of the two doors. Clear the guards and grab the Gold Key. Return to the cross-shaped room.

Run to the opposite wing and enter the locked door off to the side. Three hallways are here — go down any one. In the room you enter, clear the guards and grab the Silver Key. Return to the cross-shaped room and go into the wing where you started. Through the door and into the red-brick area — be careful, SS are behind most of the doors and firing your gun will alert them all. Clear them, enter any door, then through the locked door inside. Turn right, down the hall, and into the elevator.

Level 8

Designer: Tom Hall?

The last level before Gretel Grosse. The elevator is tantalizingly visible right from the start.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

You start in a spiraling hallway — navigate it to the main hall where the elevator is visible behind some barrels. Head to the triple-door split. Take the left door. Explore the room through any of its doors until you find the one leading to a room with guards and the Gold Key. Grab it and return to the triple-door split.

This time go straight ahead. Turn right around the corner and enter the locked door. Go either way at the split. When the room opens up, clear the guards and grab the Silver Key. Return to where you saw the elevator and enter the locked door to its right, then into the elevator.

Gretel Grosse — Boss Level

Designer: John Romero

The level where the Giftkrieg plans are located — and where Gretel Grosse stands guard.

Points of Interest

  • Gretel Grosse is here
  • The Giftkrieg plans are here once Gretel is defeated

Walkthrough

Go straight when you enter into a room full of health — don't worry about ammo yet. Go through any of the three doors here, then immediately right or left, then straight, into the door ahead — not the one to the right. In these two rooms are ammo stashes. Fill up, then head for Gretel.

Fighting Gretel Grosse

Use the hide-and-shoot method — take cover when she fires, then shoot when she pauses. Return to the ammo rooms as needed. If you need a Chaingun, there's a secret room accessible from the walls of the main hall — use the map. Keep the pressure on and she'll fall.

Once she's dead, grab the Gold Key she drops and enter the locked door. More guards flood in — deal with them, turn the corner, and run for the plans.

Secret Level

Designer: John Romero?

One of the more coherent secret levels — almost a normal level.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here

Walkthrough

From your start you'll face three doors. Take the left one. At the cross-junction, turn right and go through the door. Cross the room into the next door and enter the long corridor. When you see a door on your left in the corridor, enter it and grab the Gold Key. Continue through the corridor to the end, through the door, and turn left. Go through another door — you'll be back at the cross-junction. Turn right, through the door, then right again. Go through the small corridor and enter the locked door when you reach it. Grab the supplies and enter the elevator.

Episode 6: Confrontation

Gretel Grosse has fallen. Now rush to the military installation at Offenbach and stop the chemical attack before thousands die. General Fettgesicht is waiting. It won't be easy.

Level 1

Designer: Tom Hall?

The blue-stone section of this level is brutally difficult without careful play.

Points of Interest

  • A secret here contains a Machine Gun — you'll need it

Walkthrough

When you enter, turn left into the small side corridor and grab the ammo. Head back out and go through the door on the right side of the room. Skip the door on your right inside, and go through the door ahead into a long hallway.

Proceed very carefully here — Officers are hiding in almost every side alcove. The safest approach is to slowly move toward each alcove, then immediately back up when the guard spots you, letting them come to you. The second alcove on the left contains a secret with a Machine Gun. Get it — you'll need it.

Follow the path out of this section. You'll enter a room with barrels. Go around them carefully — Officers may hear you from the room ahead. Once they're all dead, go through the room into either of two doors. Turn left down the corridor to the red-brick area. This section is very long — keep going until you reach a door at the very end. Enter it, turn right, and find the elevator.

Level 2

Designer: Robert Prince

A unique level designed by the game's musician. The main area is structured in distinct layers.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here

Walkthrough

Your starting room is filled with wall block islands — navigate through it carefully, watching for guards that can sneak up from behind. When you find the door and enter the second room, it's much the same — navigate through and exit.

You'll be in a hallway that splits at the end. Turn left. Head down the hall, around the bend, and through the first door on your left. Turn right and head down the hall. Go all the way to the very last door on the right. Turn right inside, head down the hall, and enter the room at the end. Turn right again. Go down this hall to the second door on your left. A door to the right should be visible — enter it. Go through the door in the small hallway, then follow the larger one all the way around to the last door. Enter it, turn left, and follow the hallway around to the door at the end.

Go through the small corridors and grab the Gold Key. Enter the locked door here and find the elevator.

Level 3

Designer: Robert Prince/Tom Hall

The layout consists of multiple swastikas joined together — complex but beatable. Level clues are visible in the environment to help you find the right path.

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key (SK) is here
  • A secret Gold Key here accesses the secret level
  • The secret elevator to Level 10 is here

Walkthrough

Enter the level and go around the corner. You'll see a locked door — remember it if you want to visit the secret level. Turn left at the crossings and go through the door into that wing. Go around the corner, turn left again at the crossings, and through either of the two doors in that wing. Go directly forward at this crossing and through the door at the end of the wing. Go through that room and the next, into a corridor. At the end of the corridor is the Silver Key — grab it. Return to the last swastika.

At the crossings, head right through the door into that wing. Enter the door on your left into another swastika. Head right at the crossings and through the locked door in that wing. Turn left, cross the intersection, and into the elevator.

To reach the secret level: Find the secret near the main elevator. Go through the small secret system into a room, then push another wall for the secret Gold Key. Return to your starting point and enter the first locked door you saw in the level. Find a secret from that room and enter the secret elevator.

Level 4

Designer: Tom Hall?

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

Enter the level and go through the door on your right. Navigate the winding room into the door at the end. A secret with a Chaingun is here if you want it. Otherwise, enter the next door and go through the diamond-shaped room. Turn left through the door in the small room into a triangular-shaped room. Turn right and enter the door in the corner — Officers are here, so be careful. Turn left and take the left door for the Gold Key, watching for Officers.

Once you have it, return to the triangular room and run to the opposite corner. Through the door, turn right. The room splits into a T — double locked doors on one side, a single locked on the other. Take the double locked doors. Deal with the Officers, and take either door on the left or right. Follow the corridor and collect the Silver Key. Return and enter the single locked door.

Go around the bend and through the door into a small corridor. Turn left just after the corner and through the door, then through one of the locked doors. Turn left and follow the corridors to the end, through the door. You'll have two doors to choose from — take the one ahead. In the next room, enter either of the double doors, and find the elevator inside. Watch for SS.

Level 5

Designer: Tom Hall?

This level is memorable for one particular section — a long, guard-packed hallway that must be sprinted.

Points of Interest

  • An optional secret to the right contains treasure, ammo, and a Chaingun
  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here
  • One of the guide's unique moments: A long hallway full of enemies — sprint to the end, then turn and fight

Walkthrough

You start with three doors, two of which are locked. If you want the Chaingun, open the secret directly to your right. Enter the unlocked door and go through the corridor into the main room to collect the Gold Key. Return to your starting room.

Turn right and enter the locked door. Go either way at the split and navigate the corridors to the main part of the room. Clear the guards and grab the Silver Key. Return to your starting room.

Turn right again and enter the second locked door. Go through the corridor. The next room has large wooden-wall islands — go around them to a three-door split. Take the door directly ahead. You'll reach a small room with a corridor going to the side — enter it. Follow it until it merges into a larger hallway.

When you reach the straight section full of small hideaways on each side — run. Sprint to the very end of the hallway, then immediately spin around and open fire on all the guards following you. A Chaingun makes this significantly easier. Once they're all dead, enter the door at the far end. Clear the remaining guards and find the elevator. Guards may be inside it.

Level 6

Designer: John Romero?

A fan favorite and one of the hardest levels in the game. The large, open room design means a single gunshot can alert enemies from across the level. Constant awareness is essential.

Points of Interest

  • Silver Key (SK) is here
  • Gold Key (GK) is here

Walkthrough

Enter the door when you start, then the door ahead of it, then the door slightly to your right, then another to the right. Turn right down the hallway and enter the door directly ahead. Turn right, then right again at the split, through the door. Grab the Silver Key in this room.

Head back through the door you came in. Turn right at the split again, through the door, down the hall, turn left, through that door, then turn right around the corner behind you to find a locked door. Run in and grab the Gold Key, then head out through the other locked door. Go straight down the hallway through the door ahead. Gradually move right down a hall until you see another locked door — enter it.

Turn right, then take either direction at the split. Go to the end of the hallway, turn left around the corner, and into the elevator.

Level 7

Designer: Tom Hall

A level with a large internal maze. Difficult without guidance.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • The Silver Key is hidden behind a column — accessible through a pushwall

Walkthrough

Be careful in your starting room — guards are hiding in the side alcoves. Clear them and go through either of the two doors. Head down the hallway and through the door on the left. You'll be in a large cross-shaped room. Turn left at the center, down the hall, and through the door. Grab the Gold Key and return to the cross room.

Turn left at the center again and through either of the two locked doors. Inside, you'll notice the Silver Key is behind a column. There's a pushwall next to the column — push it to open the way and grab the key. Watch out for SS. Return to the cross and head left at the center again.

At the end of the hall you'll have two doors — take the left one. Use the map to navigate the maze beyond. Once you reach the locked door, enter it, deal with the Officers, and find the elevator.

Level 8

Designer: Tom Hall?

A very long level — without knowing the secret shortcuts, the main hallway feels endless.

Points of Interest

  • Gold Key (GK) is here
  • Silver Key (SK) is here

Walkthrough

There's a secret on the wall right next to you when the level starts. Go through it, head around the corner into the door, through this room, the next, and the next. Turn right in that room, around the corner, and through the door. Through the small room, into the room with two doors — take the left one. Turn right and head down the hallway. Turn left around the corner, go to the end, and through the door. Through this room and the next. Turn right through the door, right again into the room with two doors, then straight into the first door ahead and right through that door. You'll be in the room with the Gold Key — grab it.

You'll notice a wall block sticking out — push one of its sides, then push the wall that was behind it. You'll be in the main hallway. Turn left and go all the way to where it bends left. On the right wall is a secret — open it. Enter the locked door to your right, through this room and the next. At the triple-door room, take any door. Leave the room and enter the first door you see. Then the door to your right. Enter the door leading to the blue-stone area — the first door on your right — and grab the Silver Key. Exit the opposite way you came in.

Go through the door to your right, through the small room, take a left into the door. Turn right through the first door. Right again and through either of the two doors there. Through two more doors, turn left into the locked door, then left and around the corner into the elevator. Brace yourself for what's next.

General Fettgesicht — Boss Level

Designer: Tom Hall?

The hardest level in the game. The sheer number of guards protecting the General is what makes this truly brutal.

Points of Interest

  • Open this secret first — it contains a Chaingun, which you'll need throughout the entire level
  • Two steel-wall areas each contain additional ammo and health secrets — open both
  • General Fettgesicht himself — two chainguns and a rocket launcher, and surrounded by waves of guards

Walkthrough

When you start, clear the guards in this room. On the right wall is a secret — open it and fill up on everything. Then enter any of the four doors and fire into the open doorway from a safe distance. Let the guards pour out and deal with them in your room. Once they're all dead, enter their room.

You now have two directions:

  • Left door — leads to a larger secret area
  • Right door — another direction to the same region, slightly less secretive

Either way, make sure you clear every guard in every room before approaching the boss chamber. There are always a few SS lurking in corners — be thorough. Once every guard is dead, return to all opened secrets and fill up completely. Then enter the door to Fettgesicht's chamber.

In the small corridor before the main room, go through it into the large chamber. Check the right wall for a secret — this is your main lifeline during the fight. Use it whenever you need supplies.

Fighting General Fettgesicht

When you first enter, do not try to kill the General yet. First, make him aware of you, then focus on eliminating every single guard in the chamber, including those hiding in the small side corridors. Once the chamber is completely clear of other enemies, only then focus on Fettgesicht.

  • Use the hide-and-shoot method behind the wall islands
  • Strafe away from his rockets when he fires
  • Don't let him corner you
  • Minimize time spent in secrets during the fight itself

Once he's down, the free world is safe. You return to Allied Headquarters where a Medal of Honor awaits.

Allied Command then informs you of strange activity around Castle Hollehammer — grey-skinned, berserk soldiers have been reported...

Secret Level

One of the best secret levels in the game — almost four levels worth of content in one.

Walkthrough

Just play and explore. There are three separate sections that lead to exits, and one section with approximately four extra lives. Use the map to help navigate.
