My mods & add-ons

Wolfenstein 3D has been a passion of mine since 1995, when I first got my hands on it; on a floppy disk, no less (remember those, kids?). From that moment, I was hooked. Exploring the Wolfenstein fan sites of that era felt like a grand adventure, leading me to hidden gems like BJ Blazkowicz's Hideout, BJ Rowan's Wolfenstein Bunker, Brian Lowe's Yellow Page, and many more. That world cemented my love for the game and ultimately inspired me to start modding in 1999.

Armed with MapEdit, WolfEdit 2.1, and WolfSnd, I dove into tutorials and began crafting my own mods. In December 2000, I released my first project, TFS, and later collaborated with Brian Lowe on the Wolfenstein 3D Dome — designing the site while he handled updates and downloads. After a hiatus (blame puberty), I returned to the scene over a decade later with Kurlandfront and have been creating add-ons ever since — sometimes solo, sometimes alongside some fantastic fellow modders.

Below you'll find all of my released mods, available in SDL format. And who knows? There may well be more on the way. Enjoy!

Solo Releases

TFS 4.0: Eisenfaustian Bargain Edition (2023)

A full revisit and expansion of my very first mod. 21 levels are featured (20 regular, 1 secret), though one level appears at map spot 21 but remains inaccessible — a nod to the original "level 0." New music drawn from DOOM II joins a host of new sounds, while the palette has been brought in line with Kurlandfront and Testament. True to form, the graphics lean into the atmosphere of the original v2.0 release more than any previous edition.

Kurlandfront (2018)

My return to modding after a long absence. The mod features 15 levels and a wealth of custom content, including 128×128 graphics adorned with original World War II-era material — stamps, propaganda posters, leaflets and more. Extra weapons and seamless level flow round out the experience, and extensive VGA changes include additional images and a brand new status bar.

Collaborative Releases

Crumbling Dream (2024) — Community Effort

A mod for Spear of Destiny, instigated by me and built into a genuine community collaboration. 20 levels are featured, 2 of which are secret. Highlights include a redesigned, spartan status bar (inspired by Duke Nukem 3D), extra weapons with unique ammo, a new palette, changed ceiling colors and music order, shading, and a redesigned menu. I put together the audiovisual outline of the set; coding was handled by Nexion, Wolf3DGuy, and Shodan. Of the 20 levels, I made 4, with the remaining 16 in the hands of Gerolf, Penguindog55, Ronwolf1705, Orka, Justy Zam, Orange, Thomas Weiling, and Shodan.

Forsaken (2024) — with Ronwolf1705

A reimagining of the Spear of Destiny mission packs with an intriguing premise: what might FormGen have made had they been more ambitious in terms of color schemes, sound, and creative scope? Forsaken is that answer. 10 levels are featured, along with many recolored graphics and wall textures, original artwork, and a brand new status bar. Coding changes include high-quality sounds and music (some inspired by Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM), an entirely new palette, extra enemies, objects and textures, and a different ending.

Not So Gretel (2024) — with Thomas Weiling

After talking about working together for some time, this was the first mod Thomas and I undertook as a team. I handled the coding changes — changed palette, music order and ceiling colors, seamless level flow, extra sounds, and a different menu color — as well as numerous graphics and sound changes and the design of levels 6, 7, and 9. Thomas made the remaining maps.

Testament (2021) — with Ronwolf1705

What started as a basic map set to pass the time during COVID grew into a full-scale mod. 21 levels are featured (20 regular, 1 secret), alongside a sweeping range of coding changes: externally sourced high-quality sounds and music, a new palette, many new textures and graphics, multiple textured floors and ceilings, and shading throughout.

Contributions to Community Projects

DHW MMC Summer 2025 (2025) — 1 map

A continuation of the long-running Map of the Month contest, with six mappers each putting the feature-heavy kit to work in their own distinct way.

Oldfartenstein (2022) — Graphics, music & 1 map

A 30th anniversary community project initially started by Atina and quickly joined by Reddimus, Orka, Serpens, and Nexion. After much deliberation, the team settled on an "old-timers' reunion" premise — an aging BJ Blazkowicz taking down equally aging Nazis in a retirement home. Originally dubbed Operation: Golden Years, the mod was later rechristened Oldfartenstein. The first episode features 10 levels in the spirit of the original May 1992 shareware release, with the full release following the structure of the WL3 version of Wolf3D.

Beyond Mutantstein Special Edition (2002) — 1 map

A Spear of Destiny tribute project coordinated by BrotherTank and Brian Lowe, originally released on December 26, 2002. The mod was dedicated to the notable Wolfenstein 3D modder John Bucksnort, who had passed away in September 2001. The set features 21 maps from 15 different mappers, alongside various code changes and graphic contributions.
