2002

25th December 2002: Beyond Mutantstein Special Edition released
Well, merry Christmas everybody!!! As I hoped, the ‘John Bucksnort Tribute’ set has been released. I’d like to thank all those who contributed – BrotherTank for the concept and most of the co-ordination – MCS for his excellent coding work – and AReyeP for the graphics and storyline. Also, to all those who contributed levels. There are 21 straight seamless levels, plus lots of graphics, sounds and source code changes. I feel it’s an excellent set – one that John would have been proud of – and it serves very well as a tribute to the ‘mutant maker’.

ps – there’s been a number of changes since the first version was released to contributors – changed ceiling colour on level 20 (now black), par times additions to the source code, some minor levels changes and a neater looking blue opening credits screen.

25th December 2002: Replacement mutants pics request
Kyle A. sent me the following email:

Does anyone have any replacement gif/bmp files for the mutant? Especially, any that have grey or white uniforms. (Remember the mutant has 5 deaths not 4 deaths pictures). And if they are gif files, please make sure they fit with Wolfedit. Thanks.

Please send them to K007auf@aol.com and label the Subject/Topic MNpics.

25th December 2002: Area 51 update
Luke Strauman tells me his ‘Area 51’ TC is almost complete. Mission 1 is done and the second mission is nearing completion. Expect it out in a few days.

24th December 2002: New Source Code Tutorial added
Kyle A. has sent in a new source code tutorial called ‘Make A Boss Drop Instantly’. It’s been added to our Coding Basics page.

24th December 2002: Halten Sie! released
Originally released for the Mac, Laz Rojas has now released a PC version of ‘Halten Sie!’. There are 10 straight levels which are well designed and replace the first episode. The first level is easy going but it gets more difficult later. There are a number of graphics and sound changes but the original ‘feel’ of Wolf3D remains. It needs the full version of Wolf3D to play. Please check out the enclosed ‘readme’ file for installing instructions.

22nd December 2002: Tribute Set update
The completed ‘John Bucksnort Tribute’ set (Beyond Mutantstein Special Edition) has now been posted for those who contributed to it to download. There are 21 straight consecutive levels. Once everyone is satisfied with it then a final version will be issued for general release, hopefully on Christmas Day. Therefore, please let me know about any changes needed by Dec 24.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get in touch with Sam Chiang or James Ingham – would either email me for the download url if they read this. Since the set was posted MCS has made a few changes to the exe (including par times for the levels). I’ll be including this in the final zip, but if anyone who contributed wants this now then please email me.

19th December 2002: Imprisoned/Final Version released
Tornado has released the final version of ‘Imprisoned’. There are now 20 levels (only 4 were in the earlier demo set). Some graphics are from Doom though many are unchanged and the atmosphere of the original Wolf3D remains.

17th December 2002: Wolf3D For Q3A/RTCW Project
Some of you may remember [Win]Elchtest. He’s been remaking WE1M1 for Q3A/RTCW. Here’s an email he sent with info on the project:

All 60 maps are still in development and I’ve made good progress with new textures and models. With Newwolf it’s possible to use those textures in classic Wolf3D. I plan to implement more of it and I’m thinking of a public release. A screenshot is shown below:

mailto:elchtest@quake.de, [Win]Elchtest

16th December 2002: Dead World Rising Demo released
This is a 2 level demo by Roger D. Although it’s nowhere near finished, there’s enough in there to show what we’re likely to expect in the final version. Roger uses ‘TFS’ as a base, but the graphics, sounds etc are ‘Doom’ based.

16th December 2002: Area 51 pics
Luke Strauman tells me his site now has a number of pics from his upcoming TC ‘Area 51’. It’s at Wolf 3D Heaven And Hell.

13th December 2002: Schabbs 9000 pics
Kyle Fisher has sent me a set of pics from his upcoming TC ‘Schabbs 9000’.

You can see the whole set here.

13th December 2002: Kuki’s new site
Kuki’s new Wolf3D site is in Polish and looks good, though I don’t understand it all!! It’s not finished yet but there will be many sections and much of it is done already. It’s at Wolfenstein Wiecznie Zywy.

12th December 2002: Dead World Rising project
Here’s an email from Roger D. concerning his new project:

Okay, well I’ve just scrapped my first mod, and in its place is a new DOOM one. It will be entitled “Dead World Rising”, and will take place in the DOOM “Universe”, meaning it is related to DOOM, but will have a new storyline. The game was built using “TFS”, and the read-me that comes with the game contains all the legal stuff, like all the games used, and who they were made by. The game will feature 5 weapons, most paying tribute to DOOM, but be on the lookout for a new arrival. Armour vests like the ones in “TFS” will also be present. Some of the original enemies will be present, be as it is a new DOOM adventure, be ready for some new ones…

Also appearing is an exploding barrel. I have yet to make it cause damage, but it does blow up. The animation looks kind of cool. New effects have been added, like flashing alarm lights and blinking ceiling lights. With the new walls, it creates a real DOOM atmosphere. I have to complete the enemies, and finish the remaining levels. The game is currently about 15% done, but looks promising so far. I’ll give you updates as it progresses. If anyone is interested in playing the test version (What I have do far), I’d be glad to e-mail them a copy.

12th December 2002: Award
Well, we got an award. It’s from Uqahs who maintains the Wolfenstein 3D – In Polish site. Well appreciated Uqahs. Click on the pic for a larger version.

12th December 2002: New site
Alexandre Brosseau has a new Wolf3D site. It’s still under construction at present, though some sections such as ‘links’ are finished. Info on the upcoming TC ‘The Luftwaffe’ should be available soon and there’s already a title screen pic on there. It’s at Alexandre Brosseau’s Wolf3D Site.

11th December 2002: Red Alert/Blood of Heroes preview
From ‘The Man Who Knows’, I just received another preview (a dossier) from his upcoming TC.

You can see it here.

9th December 2002: Tribute Set update
Levels were received during the weekend from Kyle Fisher and Bobby Bucksnort. This leaves 2 more to complete the 21 required. Bobby tells me Harry Mass Senior is doing one, plus Martin Krysiak said he would too. I’ve checked out all the levels done so far, and all are now bug free (hopefully, I haven’t missed anything).

9th December 2002: Castle Totenkopf v1.2 released
Completing the original ‘Castle Totenkopf’ boss level 10 is extremely difficult so Wolf Skevos-Jones has now issued some guidance on how to complete the level. Wolf has also issued a new version with an easier boss level.

8th December 2002: Steven L. Pappas upcoming set
Steven L. Pappas has been working on an extension of the ‘Barneystein’ patch made by ‘Pc Crap’ on the SOD engine entitled ‘Rise of the Purple One’. It should be out by the end of the month. Below is a list of new features:

  • New maps
  • New boss graphics (Mechabarney, Baby Bop, Beavis & Butthead and the Purple One himself)
  • New enemy graphics (Sponge Minions)
  • New weapon graphics (Rifle, Semi-automatic, DOOM chaingun)
  • New story
  • New treasure ( kidnapped children)

Here’s a couple of screenshots (note: It isn’t done yet so that’s why some stuff isn’t changed):

6th December 2002: Tribute Set update
Latest news on the ‘Tribute’ is that Bobby Bucksnort has kindly offered to do some more levels, and there should also be one or two from Martin Krysiak. I have just completed a previously unfinished level of Greg’s, so that leaves just four more for a complete 21 level set.

5th December 2002: Imprisoned (Demo) released
Tornado has released a 4 level demo of his upcoming TC ‘Imprisoned’. Some graphics are from Doom though many are unchanged and the atmosphere of the original Wolf3D remains. If you like mazes then don’t miss the secret level. There are some sounds and source code changes and a new title screen. There will be 20 levels in the final version. There’s a lot of info about the project in the supplied doc file.

5th December 2002: Dome Forums revamped
The Dome Forums have been revamped and now have a light blue background colour. Chad has done quite a lot of work on them (thanks Chad) and they look pretty good.

5th December 2002: Tribute Set update
An update regarding the ‘Tribute’ set situation was posted in the Dome Forums yesterday in the General section. Basically, I’ve added Ariel’s 2 levels and we now need another 5 to complete the 21 levels. Graphics, title screen, source code, and help/endart seem ok.

3rd December 2002: Project Eisenritter released
Twenty new levels here and from what I played thus far they are well designed, plus lots of good graphics and sounds. There’s one large seamless episode with 7 weapons and new keys. The ‘read this’ from the menu is particularly well done, and the new sounds/music add to the atmosphere. This is a very good effort by Wolf Skevos-Jones.

3rd December 2002: John Bucksnort Tribute set update
Greg has sent me the latest files from the John Bucksnort Tribute set. Greg wasn’t able to complete all the work on the set due to other commitments so he’s handed it over to me to finish off. I’ve had a quick look at it levelwise and it seems that at least 3 levels need to be added. I have 2 from Ariel to add and maybe some from Martin Krysiak so there should be no problem with the levels. I’ve not checked out the read this/endart yet. I’ll post more news on this when I’ve had a more detailed look at the set. Hopefully, it won’t be long before it’s released.

3rd December 2002: Area 51 pics
Kyle Fisher has made a set of pics from Luke Strauman’s ‘Area51’. This TC is due to be released very soon.

2nd December 2002: Assassinate Hitler 2 Demo released
Kyle Fisher has released a 3 level demo of a sequel to Gary Ragland’s ‘Assassinate Hitler’. What’s there is done well though the levels are not that large. The third level is a revamp of the original shareware boss level but you meet Hitler and not Hans Grosse. There are some source code and graphics changes. Ten levels are planned for the final version.

30th November 2002: Nov 2002 Dome Award
Much to our regret, this month we have no award. This is because there were no new add-ons that, in our opinion, were worthy of being awarded. We hope this will different next month.

31st October 2002: Doomsday released
Here’s a shareware 1.4 Wolf3D set with original graphics sent in by Bernt Hansen. Originally made by Brian Larsen, Bernt has made a few improvements to most levels. All ten levels are new and the secret level is reached from the boss level. It’s quite an enjoyable set, at least judging from the first few levels, and will especially suit those who like the original game.

31st October 2002: Assassination update
I’ve replaced the map files in ‘Assassination’ (see Oct 25) with new ones sent in by Bernt Hansen. As well as changes to level three, Bernt has also made a few minor changes to a couple other levels.

27th October 2002: The Alien Fan update
Here’s an email I received from ‘The Alien Fan’:

My earlier mentioned ‘The Terminator’ TC has been cancelled. BUT I have something far more cool in mind hehe. Take on the role of an MI SOLDIER. Arm yourself with a morita and knife and set out to kill some bugs.

–Enemies (So far)–

  • Arachnid Warrior (standard bug)
  • Hopper Arachnid (A Giant Flying Mosqitoe from hell)
  • Queen Bug THE BIG BITCH lol

–Weapons–

  • Knife (who needs a knife in a nuke fight anyway?)
  • Morita (Standard issue)
  • Morita Shotgun Attachment (pretty much secondary fire for morita)
  • Chaingun (Have fun – that’s an order)

–Features–

  • Textured Terrain (aka if the planet is desert, you will see desert textures for the ground)
  • Skies
  • Unlike most Wolf3d games (or tc’s as some call them), the monsters will have new coding
  • The hoppers will swoop down and try to kill you
  • The Arachnids with charge at you in packs (they will be very tough to kill. Like in the movie you will put about 20 rounds into ONE just to kill it)
  • Troopers (fake sprites) that stand guard at base for a more REAL feel
  • 3d Dropships (level Geometry)

Click here for a picture of an early version of the arachnid (keep in mind it may look better/worse to you becuz this pic is taken in wolfgl).

26th October 2002: The Thing released
Wes Desjardins has released ‘The Thing’. There are 6 well designed levels and a large number of graphics, sounds and source code changes. The title screen is totally revamped. Set in Antarctica, the images are quite effective. Watch out for those nasty spiders!!

26th October 2002: The Road to Despair update
Executor (formerly known as Viper) has sent me an update on his TRTD project. There’s also a couple pics from his other upcoming projects:

Progress has been going slowly and I have been working on and off on TRTD for a total of 22 months. Here are some of the changes to TRTD since the last upload:

The silly plasma gun has been replaced with a Sturmgewehr 44 based on the Lost Episodes machinegun. I grayscaled the frames, then popped them into 24-bit color, re-purpleized the backgrounds, and changed the color of the hands to indicate black gloves, applied 8-bit color depth, and changed it to the Wolfenstein palette. I made the firing (third) frame by hand-drawing a muzzle flash on the second frame. The result is much better than I anticipated, because it is one of the first times I have ever done sprite editing.

The following pic shows the “old new” machine gun taken from Beyond Wolfenstein II SE…

Did you ever wonder why there were about 20 health packs at the start of level 11? Now you know.

Here’s another pic…

The STGW 44 firing

The new SS are from WSJ’s Castle Totenkopf. Notice how both their guns and the gun the player uses have the same style of muzzle flash. They also make the same sounds. In fact, all of the enemies’ weapons sound like yours. It’s called realism.

I’ve been plagued by a deluge of unsolicited emails recently. About 40 spams EVERY SINGLE DAY. Here’s a few pictures:

I’ve been working on the next two Megastein installments lately. TRTD is not cancelled. Here’s a pic from each one…

25th October 2002: Assassination released
Bernt Hansen has released ‘Assassination’. This is a Wolf3D shareware 1.4 set with ‘Lost Episodes’ graphics and sounds. All ten levels are new and well designed. Some of the later levels have pushwalls that need to be opened to get to the exits. Overall, a very good set.

Message to Bernt: I fixed a few things on level three which were preventing access to the next level. I tried emailing you about it, but the email rebounded. Let me know if you want anything changed. Brian.

22nd October 2002: Eat at Joe’s: Original Version released
Someone pointed out that ‘Eat at Joe’s’ was not available on the Dome server. From what I remember, I couldn’t get the new version to work but I just posted the original. There’s 10 new levels and good cartoon type graphics, plus new sounds.

There are a number of graphics and source code changes, but the atmosphere of the original game is still there. It is difficult to beat – there are pushwalls on most levels which you need to open to find the exits – and there are bosses on some normal levels. Lots of action, and lots of mutants!! Needs the registered Wolf3d to play as Harry has left out the audiohed file.

16th October 2002: Mr. Lowe’s Wolf3D Page URL change
Due to an ‘upgrade’ on the server hosting ‘Mr. Lowe’s Wolf Page’, a ‘/’ now needs to be added to the end of the url – otherwise links to pics and other pages on the same server won’t work!! The revised url is http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~brlowe/.

The first few levels are easy to beat but it gets much harder after that.

9th October 2002: Galaxy updates
Here’s a message James Ingham asked me to post concerning his Wolf3D site:

James’ Wolfenstein 3D Galaxy is still working, but hasn’t been updated for a while. From now on, I will try to do some work on it every week and post the site up once every 2/3 weeks. Sorry about the long time away. This year I have course work to do and I also have a job. It’s hard to find space in between this for the site…

7th October 2002: Gottspear released
Bobby Bucksnort has released ‘Mutantstein V – Gottspear’. There are 13 well designed levels, plus many graphics, sounds and source code changes. It’s a fast moving set with plenty of action. Some keys are in hidden rooms. Needs the registered Wolf 3D game to play.

29th September 2002: MapEdit project
Here’s an email from Andrew Millward regarding his MapEdit Project:

Hi, just to let you know that my MapEdit project has been renamed to MapEdit HB (short for Home Brew) You can download a slightly updated version at the Wolfenstein 3-D Bunker. Don’t expect anything special yet as it is an alpha version. I will be adding a print map feature and a covert map versions feature. I will probably add support for Blake-Stone (like MapEdit 8.4 has) but probably not for the other games. I can’t think of any think else to add yet, but if anyone has any ideas (as long as it’s Wolf3d related) or wants to see a certain feature, please email me on andy@games-guru.com. I’ll probably have to do some more research on Pascal to find out how to do certain things. I’m also learning it at college, and have picked the rest up by messing about with the source code.

Andrew.

28th September 2002: Wolf3D Multiplayer Project
Martin Krysiak has sent me an FAQ regarding the Multiplayer Project. It’s quite detailed and answers a lot of questions.

22th September 2002: Wolfsite updated
Here’s an email I received from Guillermo Buteler:

Wolfsite has another update. It has now a counter at last and the upload of sets has started, but they still can’t be downloaded. Also, the Editing section has added the MapTips file, a text file with tips to design, make, improve, and present Wolf3d. This is an open forum so if you got any tips, you can send them to the wolfsite e-mail or use the submit buttons on the Editing section. Updated releases with new tips will appear when new tips arrive. More info on the page and stay tuned for the post of sets and downloads.

Meanwhile, I’m having problems with setting up a Read This! to my TC, Losing An As, please send help to gbuteler2000@yahoo.com.ar. Once this problem is solved the new beta (v0.99b) will arrive.

Patrick Grey tells me the 10-level release of Hitler’s Attack’ might be September 28, but may not be till October 5. Only 1 map is left to do. After the full version is done, another TC is planned called ‘Revenge Of Adolf’. It’ll have 60 levels that follow the same story as the original Wolf-3D.

20th September 2002: New add-ons
Ross Williams, who created ‘Day of the Chaingun’, will be releasing 2 new addons for Wolf 3d. They are:

8th September 2002: Zombies in LA released
This nine level TC by Wes Desjardins is a sequel to ‘Zombies’. The levels are not that large but are well designed and there are more new graphics. The opening level is set outside on the outskirts of LA, but then moves inside.

The Dome Forums have moved and are now at Wolfenstein Forums. All messages from the last forums have been retained. Links to it from all the main pages have now been updated. 5th September 2002: Assault on Hell being updated
Little Snabes (Jake) tells me he’s updating his ‘Assault on Hell’ TC. There’ll be the following new features:

  • new starting level for each episode
  • episodes 4-5-6 will have all ten levels
  • more secrets and more maze like levels
  • no source code editing just original.exe
  • should be released October ( on Jakes birthday)

4th September 2002: Zombies released
Wes Desjardins has released ‘Zombies’. There are 5 levels with well designed layouts, plus many graphics, sounds and source code changes. Some effects are quite spectacular. The first 3 levels are mainly outdoors while the 4th and Boss levels are set inside.

4th September 2002: Raw Meat v2 released
Ryan’s ‘Raw Meat’ has been updated and now has even more special effects. What’s there is done well though there’s just one level and it doesn’t last long. You can get it from the ‘files’ section at Ryan’s Gaming Club.

2nd September 2002: Prisoner 666 released
JJ has released ‘Prisoner 666’ which is for shareware version 1.4. There’s only one level – mainly a large maze – but it’s pretty difficult to beat. One pushwall (which you really need to win) is hard to find. Some of the graphics and sounds have been changed. All files are included.

1st September 2002: Castle Totenkopf released
This is Wolf Skevos-Jones’ first TC. The levels are well designed with good layouts. There are many source code changes, including new enemies (not replaced ones or ghosts, but full 8-sided guards) and a couple new weapons. It is for Wolf 3d, but it has one episode with 21 levels (like Spear). There are many new graphics and sounds, a lot of them are modified from the Spear episodes 2 and 3.

1st September 2002: Save the Universe – Part One reposted
I posted Save The Universe – Part One again yesterday after it was pointed out that the original file didn’t work. The one now on the server has been tested and is OK. For more info on this set, check out
July 31 news.

1st September 2002: AReyeP’s ‘Lost’ first add-on released
Steve recently found his first add-on again (made in early 1993, and presumed lost for a long time) on a backup disk and has now released it. Having played most of it, I find it a very good set of levels with well designed layouts. And it doesn’t look dated at all! There are ten new levels and it’s for shareware version 1.0. You can get it at AReyeP’s and MCS’s Wolfenstein 3D site (in the ‘Other Stuff’ section). All files are included.

31st August 2002: Future Wolfenstein TC’s
Here’s a list of Wolfenstein TC’s that Ryan de Haast will be creating in the future:

  • Pray for B.J (Joint TC between me and Wes)
  • Simpsonstein
  • More to come…

31st August 2002: Dome updates – help needed
Since the start in January this year, the Dome has had many regular visits. We of course want to keep the beat going. So a renovation is planned. And for that we need YOU! What you can do? Simple. Make an email to Brian Lowe describing what you think should be added to the Dome, or should go immediately away from it, of course.

The reward for this is of course – a better site. No matter if you think your idea isn’t good enough or probably has been mentioned by someone else – send it in! All feedback is welcome! We need you to make the Dome better. Thank you.

31st August 2002: Hitler’s Attack update
Patrick Grey sent the following email regarding the upcoming add-on ‘Hitler’s Attack’:

My first week of school has been pretty good, but I don’t have much spare time on school days. I have Monday off, and so do my parents, however. This means I’ll probably get about 3/4 of a map done. However, the ten-level release probably won’t be until September 14 now. I’m pretty much to the schedule, so there is a good chance that this will be it’s last delay.

30th August 2002: Raid on Wolfenstein released
This is the first set of levels by Bryan Banfield and is for Wolf3D shareware v1.4. There’s no new graphics but all 10 levels are well designed, quite extensive, and similar in style to the original game. All files are included.

27th August 2002: August 2002 Dome Award announced
This month’s Dome Award goes to AReyeP for his his texture library. It’s at AReyeP’s and MCS’s Wolfenstein 3D site. Congratulations, Steve!! The library has a wealth of hints and tips on creating and importing graphics. Please remember to give credit though if you use any of the material.

27th August 2002: James Ingham email update
James tells me his email address at james_ingham@msn.com is now working. His other email address at ‘wolf3dgalaxy@zzn.com’ doesn’t work anymore.

27th August 2002: Pineapplestein 2 released
This TC came out early this year and was sent in by Patrick Grey. It has levels made with the Creator program but has a large number of other changes done by Kody Dagley, Daniel McHone and Erran Newton. Quite a good ‘fun’ set.

25th August 2002: Operation: MDK released
Wes Desjardins has released Phase One of his new TC ‘Operation: MDK’. There are 34 levels done (the first 3 episodes, plus some of the fourth), and there are a number of graphics changes.

24th August 2002: New site/add-on
Erick Frost has a new site called The Luftwaffe II Headquarters. Not much is working yet, but it should be sorted out soon. Erick is also working on his first add-on called ‘The Luftwaffe’.

24th August 2002: Hitler’s Attack update
Progress on Patrick Grey’s ‘Hitler’s Attack’ has been going well, partly due to Patrick’s parents helping out with the levels. Two more levels have recently been done and a ten level version should be released in about 2 weeks.

22nd August 2002: Full Screen Tutorial Posted
Ripper tells me he’s posted a tutorial on how to add a full screen mode to the Wolfenstein 3D engine. You’ll now be able to enjoy the game without any borders!! The tutorial, and screenshots, are at CHAOS Software.

13th August 2002: New Wolf3D mod
Joshua Monroe and his mod team ‘Meltdown Entertainment’ are working on a new Wolf3D mod titled ‘Barcode Prisoners’. All, and that means ALL, of the graphics, sounds, the EndArt, HelpArt, and the EXE will be changed. Here are the features the full game will have:

  • OpenGL support
  • Mouse look (side to side, not up or down)
  • Custom control settings
  • Crosshair
  • *MAYBE* a random mission generator
  • HelpArt and EndArt changed
  • Stealth mode, where you are unarmed and you have to sneak past guards, and when you kill them an alarm sounds, alerting all of the guards in the level to your presence. (This is very easy to do, just have deaf patrolling guards, but don’t put any floor codes into that level)
  • Body Armor
  • Different Ammo Types
  • 7 weapons: Lead pipe, Pistol, Hardballer (Magnum), AK47 Assault Rifle, MK4 Minigun, Throwing knives and Shotgun

Some screenshots will be released soon. Thanks Joshua for all that info, and good luck with the mod.

13th August 2002: Hitler’s Attack update
Progress on Patrick Grey’s ‘Hitler’s Attack’ has been slow (just a half level map completed in a week). The 10 level version is not now expected for another 5 weeks.

12th August 2002: James Ingham email change
James tells me his e-mail address ‘webmaster@wolf3dgalaxy.zzn.com’ is not in use any more and ‘jamez_ingham@msn.com’ is temporarily not in use. A new address will be posted in a few days.

12th August 2002: Outside Atmosphere Tutorial
CHAOS Software have released their second Wolfenstein 3D coding tutorial “Outside atmosphere”, which allows you to have a star sky with optional falling rain or snow. This makes it possible to create really nice outdoor scenes!

Visit CHAOS Software for more screenshots and the tutorial!

10th August 2002: Polish Vswap editor
Kuki has sent me a Polish Vswap editor. It can’t modify objects, but for wall editing it’s far better than Wolfedit, because it has some cool filters, rectangle drawing tools and a clipboard. And it can also play sounds, though you can’t modify them. It’s not compatible with Vswap’s previously edited with Floedit. It’s called W-EDIT v.1.2 and dates from 1995.

On a different note, Kuki tells me that the language used in the ‘Weird Map Editor’ (see Aug 6) is ‘Slovak’. Thanks for the info Kuki.

10th August 2002: WolfSite updated
Wolfsite (maintained by Guillermo Buteler) has been updated recently and features levels and links, plus details of Guillermo’s add-ons. Further modifications are also underway, including a page on level design and more add-on downloads.

10th August 2002: Area 51 renamed
Wes Desjardins next add-on ‘Area 51’ (see Aug 5) is to be renamed, maybe to ‘Area 511’. It was pointed out that Luke Strauman has already used the title ‘Area 51’ in one of his add-ons.

6th August 2002: Weird map editor
Millward sent me a really weird version of ‘Mapedit’ he found recently. The map and object definitions plus some other instructions are in another language, maybe an East European one. It’s an early version of Mapedit but it works, at least with the full version.

6th August 2002: Creator maps no longer accepted
Following several complaints about the number of creator made add-ons we’ve posted recently, we’ve decided not to accept any more ‘maps only’ games made with the program. Any add-ons with creator made maps that have a substantial number of other changes will continue to be considered.

5th August 2002: Upcoming TC’s
Wes Desjardins is currently working on a new TC called ‘Area 51’. Another TC is planned later with Ryan de Haast called ‘Pray For BJ’.

3rd August 2002: GORE released

Sixty new levels made with the Creator program by Patrick Grey. As with other map sets made with Creator they are predictable but OK. Needs the registered set to play.

3rd August 2002: Infiltration released
Eight well designed levels by Paul Rawski (SilverIce). There’s a number of new graphics and sounds not seen elsewhere, plus title screen changes. The storyline is set in Seattle, 1995 – you can read more in the enclosed text file. Don’t put ‘Mapedit’ in the same folder or the files will corrupt. All files are included.

2nd August 2002: Hitler’s Attack update
Patrick Grey tells me just one new level has been added during the last couple weeks, but a ten level update should be ready within a month.

31st July 2002: Day of the Chaingun released
Ross Williams has released his shareware v1.4 add-on Day Of The Chaingun. There are six new levels, plus a number of graphics not seen elsewhere. There’s also many title screen changes. The levels are well designed and of a fair size though not extensive.

Also available are two of Ross’s earlier shareware v1.4 add-ons:

  • Save The Universe – Part One
  • Save The Universe – Part Two

These 2 add-ons have 8 levels each, and the design is OK, though not as well developed as in ‘Day Of The Chaingun’. Both also have a number of graphics not seen elsewhere, plus changes to the title screens. All 3 add-ons have ‘all files included’.

Ross has a website called Rossweb Index and News. Check out ‘Ross’s Editing Site’ which has info, links and pics on Wolf3D and some later id games.

31st July 2002: NewWolf v0.6 (for OpenGL) released
DarkOne has released a new version of ‘NewWolf’. It’s available from his site called NewWolf – Wolfenstein 3D For OpenGL. Also available are several utilities including ‘IMF Tools’ (for adding sounds), and a colour palette convertor.

Bobby Bucksnort tells me the levels are all done for ‘Gottspear’, all that remains is some final editing of object placements on some of the maps and a testing session. It’s estimated at 10 days or less to the release date. Meanwhile there’s a read me file available which will be included with the TC.

29th July 2002: The Blitzkrieg screenshot

JJ has released a new TC version of ‘Scarystein’. Changes include new ceiling colours, episode names and extra ammo/health, plus there’s a challenging new Christmas level on episode two.

28th July 2002: Sam Feichter email
Here’s an email received today from Sam:

Howdy

I have a new section on my site called ‘The Dumbsmack’. Please visit it. It is pretty much just my friends (and, every once in a while, me) doing stupid crap. If you have any ideas for us to do, please email me at Samiam5446@msn.com or e-mail the Dumbsmackers at Dumbsmack12@yahoo.com.

By the way, Castle of Doom is almost finished. Give me some time to send it to Brian over here, and you will get a lot of castle and doom.

Sam Feichter

28th July 2002: Shadows of Despair released
Wes Desjardins has released his 30 level TC ‘Shadows Of Despair’. There are 30 levels. Though mostly made with the creator program, some have since been re-edited. Some source code changes, new title screen, and imported graphics. Some graphics are from ‘Lost Episodes’.

  • Fixed brown-to-black bug in map bmp/printed map
  • Window now resizeable

23rd July 2002: Nat_W3d v1.4 released
Andy Nonymous sent this 1.4 version of the ‘Nat_W3d’ add-on released yesterday. Andy tells me that the author was Nathaniel Rudiak-Gould. The story behind these levels is that they were “withdrawn” from circulation after Apogee asked that people don’t edit the shareware version (see FAQ v.4.20). Nat later included these levels in his famous ‘Temporary Insanity’ levels. Needs s/ware Wolf3d v1.4 to play.

22nd July 2002: Sword of Light released
Wes Desjardins who made ‘Astrostein 2525’ has now released the TC Sword Of Light. It has Spear graphics/sounds and 19 new levels. The first is quite mazy. The layout of most other levels includes a lot more rooms and the quality is good.

22nd July 2002: Ryan de Haast email
I received this email today from Ryan:

I won’t be busy with Wolfenstein, my site, and my project because at the moment I’ve got to do some heavy studying. My final and prelim exams are just around the corner and I need to pass them, so the creating of ‘Double Trouble’ has currently been put on hold, until the end of November.

Ryan de Haast

First of two shareware sets sent in by Patrick Grey, both date from 1992 but have not been available on The Dome before. This one Nat_W3d has 10 very extensive levels and they are well designed. 20th July 2002: Hitler’s Attack progress
Patrick Grey tells me his ‘Hitler’s Attack’ add-on is progressing slowly but it’s not been cancelled. Five maps are done (including the three in the demo). It’ll be updated at the 10 level mark which should be in about three weeks.

It’ll then be updated every time 10 more levels are completed.

20th July 2002: Astrostein 2525 released
This TC was sent in by Ryan de Haast and is by Wes. Some graphics are from the ‘Astrostein: 3 Level Demo’ by Bruce Ryder but there are far more levels here (twelve). There’s a lot of decoration though on some levels there’s just a few large rooms.

16th July 2002: New game design
Dan86 sent me the following email:

I have a new game design idea that I would like to see put into action. I would like to have the option of choosing the whether the player can be a good guy or a nazi. If the player chose nazi, the enemy would then be the emaciated prisoners roaming throughout the castle. Call it ‘Stalag 13’ or maybe ‘TFS’ (redo).

I guess the purpose of this game would be to destroy as many of the prisoners as possible.

Dan.

14th July 2002: Zach grounded
Here’s an email Tris received from Zach Higgins.

I’ve got some bad news. I recently received my second semester report card and frankly my dad hated it. In fact my dad has me grounded from the PC for 9 weeks!!!!! Even more, in fact I’m not even supposed to be on now. So you won’t hear from me until 9-15-02 <SIGH>

Take Care,

Zach

10th July 2002: Sam Feichter/Doom and Wolf
Here’s the latest news from Sam:

Ok, let’s get right down to the point.

I am done with a new project, The Castle of Doom (Nothing to do with the Doom series), but, I am NOT releasing it until the 2nd episode of Gorenstein 2 is completed. The 2nd episode, The SS Headquarters, will be a step up in difficulty. Therefore, it goes up, until finally, the final episode, in the hardest adventure in Gorenstein 2, Castle Gorenstein.

Sam

(Also, after Gorenstein 2, episode 2 is done, I will be going back to DooM for a couple months, then back to wolf for Episode 3. This sounds too much like Star Wars.)“.

This section has now been updated to include things like screensavers, maps and midi files etc. It’s at Cheats/Extras. I know some of the links to other sites don’t work at the moment. Any still not working in a few days will be removed.

4th July 2002: Domination: Special Edition posted
This version of Barry Christian’s 3rd set was sent in by A. Nonymous. It’s the ‘Special Edition’ and has 28 consecutive levels, a changed music order and a new title screen.

3rd July 2002: Patrick Grey’s Wolf-3D and Spear Funpack!!!
This zip contains Patrick’s four sets he’s made for Wolf-3d/Spear. The sets are:

  • Hitler’s Resurrection (Wolf-3d)
  • Trickstein (Wolf-3d)
  • Hitler’s Worst Hour (Wolf-3d)
  • Ultimate-Evil (Spear)

All 4 sets have 5 new levels, and need the corresponding registered set to play. This means you have 20 new levels!!

1st July 2002: Ultimate-Evil released
This is Patrick Grey’s fourth set of maps but this time they’re for Spear. There are four normal levels, plus a difficult to find secret level. They’re not that large but are well designed. Needs the registered Spear set to play.

1st July 2002: JJStein – Act IV: Dungeons of Death released
This latest shareware v1.4 set by JJ has no totally new maps but level one has been modified and there’s many new guards. There’s a lot of graffiti and beware of the SS – one of them is not who he seems!

30th June 2002: Spear Desktop Theme
Kuki sent me a Spear Desktop Theme package. There are several available for Wolf3D but this is the first I’ve seen for the sequel (or more correctly – prequel), and it looks pretty good. It’ll be added to our extras page soon.

30th June 2002: Wolfenstein Cabin is back
Ryan de Haast’s Wolfenstein Cabin site is now back online. Here’s the affiliate button and logo…

June 29: Hitler’s Worst Hour released
Third in a series of map sets by Patrick Grey, this one has five new levels on episode five. Again, there’s a lot of narrow passages and the levels are not that large but what’s there is done OK. Needs the registered set to play.

29th June 2002: June 2002 Dome Award Announced
The June 2002 Dome Award goes to A. Acquinucus for Ragnarok. Although there’s no new graphics or source code changes, the quality of the levels are very good. Needs the registered set to play.

27th June 2002: Wolf 3D: Zero Hour Beta released
Martin Krysiak has asked me to make available his Zero Hour Beta. Please check it out if you wish and report any comments or bugs to Martin at muad.dib1@wp.pl. Details of the new TC were announced yesterday, but I’ve since played far more of it and I find the level design and the new walls impressive. There are some secret area floorcode errors but Martin will fix these in the next version.

26th June 2002: SpearMP released
These 21 maps for the full Spear set date from 1994 but I’ve not seen them before. The author is Mike Pascale and are very well designed. Similar in style to the originals. Needs the full ‘Spear’ to play.

26th June 2002: Sodmet12 released
This is far more difficult than ‘SpearMP’  also released today. It’s similar in style at times but there are more bosses and keys are often well hidden in secret areas. There are 12 normal levels, plus 2 secret ones. I’m not sure who made them all, but the first 4 were done by Butch Nordstrom though they’ve since been modified. Needs the full ‘Spear’ to play.

26th June 2002: New site
Cory Carr has a new Wolf3D site called Over The Wall. It looks well designed and has a lot of sections including game history, maps, and photos. RTCW is also featured.

26th June 2002: Wolf 3D: Zero Hour Beta
Martin Krysiak sent me the following info about his upcoming TC ‘Wolf 3D: Zero Hour’.

  • Changed visual look of Officer and weapons
  • Added armour
  • Added jamming chainguns
  • Changes in “Vgagraph” file
  • New menu
  • Changed strength of opponents
  • Changed musics, ceiling colours
  • New textures
  • Land mines
  • New help art / end art
  • New demos
  • Added new item: weapons crate
  • Changed value of treasury

But this is only a BETA!

Thanks Martin for all that info. Looking forward to checking out the beta!

26th June 2002: Operation 88 pic
Fredrik Stjernholm released the following pic from his upcoming TC ‘Operation 88’. You can see more pics at Fredrik’s site Blastfire Entertainment.

25th June 2002: Trickstein (v1.0) released
Another set of levels from Patrick Grey and, as the title suggests, there are a lot of trick effects this time. There are five new levels on episode four, including a very hard to find secret level. Lots of pushwalls and narrow passages. No new graphics or sounds. Needs the registered set to play.

23rd June 2002: The Nuremburg Projects released
An extremely difficult set which Sam Feichter put together in 24 hours. The 60 levels were made using the creator program and there are a number of imported graphics and a new title screen (shown below). There are many bosses on every level though there’s a lot of ammo/health too.

23rd June 2002: The Final Solution (v3.0) Source Code released
Tris has released the source code for ‘The Final Solution (v3.0)’. Please remember to mention it in the credits if you use it.

22nd June 2002: Wolf Reborn updated
Zach has sent me an updated version of Wolf Reborn. This is an alternative set of graphics and sounds for the full version which is ideal for map sets that don’t come with new vswap/audio files. Some of the changes in this version are a new status bar, updated graphics (including giving the SS his original cap) and a new, extensive readme (.doc). The map sets are not supplied. I used my own Wolfbel2 maps and they came out well – the original atmosphere is still there.

22nd June 2002: Spearmpixsod released
This set of maps made in 1998 are for the full Spear by ‘MP Entertainment’ (Maarten Pinxten and his brother Roel). There are 21 levels and all are of a high standard. The first looks the same as Maarten’s ‘MpSodLev’ but others are different. Requires the full ‘Spear’ to play.

22nd June 2002: Gorenstein 2 update & title screen
Sam Feichter sent me the following news update and title screen for ‘Gorenstein 2’:

Hey all! Sam again. I have the new title screen done. I like it a lot. Also, I am redoing a lot of GFX. New Josef Hitler planned. Awesome GFX. Episode 2 upgrade starting.

That is all.

Sam“. Thanks Sam for the info.

22nd June 2002: Project Verdammt Demo added
James Ingham’s one level demo of ‘Project Verdammt’ from May 2001 has finally been added to our add-ons lists! Although it was on the Easyspace server, the only link to it was from a news item when first released. Thanks to Zach for pointing this out. For those unfamiliar with the demo, it has a number of new features such as increased health/ammo/lives and two chainguns. As the main purpose of the demo is to show the chainguns, the level design is fairly basic (though the opening scene looks pretty neat).

22nd June 2002: Hitler’s Resurrection (v1.0) released
Patrick Grey’s first set of maps for Wolf3D. There are 5 levels, including the secret one. What’s there is done OK but apart from the first level they are pretty small. No new sounds or graphics but will suit those who like the original game, especially with the short download time (filesize is only 4.22Kb). Needs the registered set to play.

ps – this Patrick Grey is not the one who made ‘Hitler’s Maze Of Death’. (There’s a slight difference in the surname anyway but I thought I’d better point this out to avoid any confusion).

June 20: Project: Weltuntergang patch
Kuki sent me a patch for his ‘Project: Weltuntergang’ TC. It fixes a bug in e3l3 which had too many objects. The full version available on this site has also been updated.

20th June 2002: The Final Solution (v3.0) posted
Jack Ryerson has pointed out that Tris’s later version (v3.0) of ‘TFS’ was not available on the Dome. Thanks Jack, this has now been posted. I’ll update the add-ons page soon. This version has 20 well designed levels and many are different from those in the earlier version. The new music, extra graphics and effects are pretty good too!

20th June 2002: Sam update
Sam Feichter sent me the following update concerning ‘Gorenstein 2’:

Alrighty here’s the news: Gorenstein 2 has been started up again. The Klobb is being replaced by the Moonraker Laser Omega. So, the weapon list is: Knife, 9mm rifle, Moonraker Laser Beta, Moonraker Laser Omega. Working on stuff right now. That is all.

Sam

14th June 2002: Ragnarok released
This set of maps called ‘Ragnarok’ has been released by A. Acquinucus and contains 30 new levels (though the first level has a lot of the original one in it). They are quite extensive and of a high standard. There are no new graphics and sounds but those who like the original set will find this pretty good. Ignore the orange sky in the pic – I used a different exe to play it! Needs the registered set to play.

12th June 2002: Wolfenstein 3D Forums
Just to remind everyone that the forums are now at Chad’s site. I’ve just changed the links on the main Dome pages and will try to get to them all changed within a few days. The link is Wolfenstein Forums. The old forums are at Original Wolfenstein Forums, but as these are now obsolete please post on the new ones.

11th June 2002: Sam Feichter is back
After a break from the Wolf3D scene, Sam Feichter is back! Here’s an email I received from Sam today:

I HAVE RETURNED!

Gore 2 will have no new source, although I will keep it so you can play it without Wolf. And, when the source is finished, then Gore 2 Special Edition will be released. Also, go to my site to see my new comix and the first official FWWA (Fort Wayne Wrestling Association) site!

Sam

Thanks Sam for the info. The new comix and FWWA is on Sam Feichter’s Site.

9th June 2002: Operation: 911 Removed
This set is no longer available on the ‘Dome’ after complaints from Luke Strauman that most of it was taken from one of his sets without permission. There was also a complaint about ‘Crap3D’ (which used Op 911 as a base) though this wasn’t available on our servers.

8th June 2002: Gottspear update
Bobby Bucksnort tells me Harry Sr. is co-authoring the Wolf version of the set as it will feature levels done by him. There’ll be music cuts from Metallica for some of the Boss levels! Here’s the titlescreen.

On a different note, Bobby’s The Mutant Co. website now features ‘DoomWeb’. Many editing programs and wads can be downloaded from there.

5th June 2002: New site
Here’s news of another Wolf3D site. It’s by Nirvanaron and has the lengthy title of Nirvanaron1985’s Super Cool Site of Coolness!! You can download an add-on there called ‘Crap3D’ which is based on the ‘Operation: 911’ set. Levels and a lot else are the same but the brown guards have top hats/beards and Hitler and Osama both have dreadlocks! Also, there’s some new sounds. What’s new is OK, but it would have been better with more changes.

4th June 2002: Guild of Darkness released
Tetraarchangel has released the first stage of ‘Guild Of Darkness’. There are ten levels, some with very large rooms. The level four maze with a seemingly endless number of doors is quite effective. There’s a number of new graphics and source code changes. The speed of the actors’ has been massively increased and there’s a health/ammo maximum of 999. There’s a manual (with the storyline etc included) which is well presented.

It’s also available from the Guild Of Darkness Website.

4th June 2002: Reinstaad Final Version released
There are eleven levels in this action packed final version of ‘Reinstaad’ for Spear from Bobby Bucksnort. All are very well designed and there’s also many graphics/source code changes. Don’t bump into the ‘For Wimps Only’ sign or you’ll get Ubermutants galore! You can download it from Bobby’s site at The Mutant Co.. The full version of Spear is required as Bobby has left out the audio files for copyright reasons.

2nd June 2002: Haunted House progress report

We’ll take 6 at MOST, SO HURRY UP!

– Codetech

Kenny Roels has three new sets on his site. All 3 have well designed levels. There are many new and imported graphics too. (Credit is given where other peoples graphics have been used.) Dark Dungeon II the sequel to Dark Dungeon I, 40 large levels with even more changed graphics, sounds, bosses and objects.

You can see the complete set here.

5th May 2002: The Fear of Magic released
This new 9 level TC is by Fredrik Stjernholm. The levels are well designed and there are some nice graphics. The game has a medieval feel to it – sort of like in ‘Heretic’. Here’s Fredrik’s description “
Instead, of being the usual wolf 3d addons that has to do with WWII, this is a Heretic/Hexen type of a game! You are in the old middle ages, as you fight your way forward, and being attacked by skeletons, wolves, warlocks, and zombies…! Use your weapons; the knife, the fire magic, the light magic, and the wizard wand!

Fredrik has a website at Blastfire Entertainment.

5th May 2002: Wolfenstein 3D Archive/new maps

I found this site on Google and has a lot of info on both Wolf3D and RTCW. There are sections for the PC and Mac. There are 2 single level maps available for the PC which I’ve not seen elsewhere. ‘Maze’ is a fairly large level, but has a number of ‘guards in a trance’ if you enter one area by a pushwall. Apart from that it’s a good level if you like mazes. The second map is ‘Hell’ – it’s nicely done but not that large. Read the enclosed text file regarding setting up the maps. The full version of Wolf3D is required for both map sets.

Wolfenstein 3D Archive – comprehensive site for both the PC and Mac versions with info, codes, images, links, downloads, and levels.

5th May 2002: Wolfer of the Decade Award
Today is Wolf3D’s tenth birthday and to celebrate, Jack Ryerson has given an award to me for services to the game. Thanks Jack, it’s appreciated.

You can read more about the award on Jack’s WOLF-3D PAGE.

5th May 2002: Projekt Vertilgung update
Zach Higgins sent me the following update on Projekt Vertilgung:

The only things left to do in Projekt Vertilgung is ONE level, a few graphics here and there to clean up, some sounds (under control now), some bug corrections, and music. About the music I don’t really need new music necessarily but just a new order. I’m pretty sure James can do that but my sound doesn’t work for Wolf so I don’t know exactly what all the music sounds like. If someone would send me or tell me a site to get all the tracks in Wolf3D (and SOD would be nice) so I can listen to them and decide I would be greatly obliged (not mentioning credit in the uh….credits :-P). I should be releasing PV BETA to the beta testers soon.

Thanks Zach for the above info.

5th May 2002: Wolf3D Topsy Turvy
Here’s yet another set of graphics from Fred Kenny. This time the actors and gems have been swopped around. There’s also some new wall designs. The maps supplied are from Wolfbel3. Requires the full Wolf3D to play.

28th April 2002: More Pathways Into Darkness info
Here’s some more features added to the upcoming TC ‘Pathways Into Darkness’.

  • 4 keys
  • Land mines
  • A NEW THING THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN IN WOLF3D… AN INVISIBILITY ITEM!!! (That’s right when you get this the bad guys can’t see you.)

28th April 2002: Wolfbat released
Fred Kenny has released another set of graphics for his WolfUSA set of levels (the new levels are on episode three, but all other episodes have some alterations done by Fred, particularly episode one). As the title suggests, there are bats – they seem to be everywhere and come in many sizes. There are also many new vivid wall designs and some other object changes.

27th April 2002: Sound support on Windows XP
I received this email from John Burnett concerning Wolf3D sound support on Windows XP:

I’ve just upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Professional today (Fresh Installation, not an Upgrade) on same computer which uses Avance AC ’97 Audio for Via Audio Controller on the mainboard. I discovered that Wolf3d now supports this, I can hear anything including music under WinXP DOS shell..

I played a TC called The Tower for testing, it started the music throught the speaker. I checked sound in the menu – it showed up – and it WORKS! with Windows XP without any problems. The Windows 2000 seem failed when I played Wolfenstein 3d.

Like I said about BIOS setup – To make sure Sound Blaster is enabled and configure the IRQ to 9 or 10, Address to 220 and DMA to 1 in BIOS setup, During Boot, the IRQ shows 5 instead of 9 on Mutlimedia line.

I hope that you all will find Windows XP could do this. (I’ve not tested it yet on Windows XP Home Edition yet, but it will work too if so). Any kind of Wolfenstein 3D including Add-on’s and Total Conversion’s will work with Windows XP. This Windows XP has emulated soundblaster built-in..

John Burnett

Thanks John, for the above info. And here’s a reply to the above from Peter Johansson:

Really like John’s path finding, and such guys need more help.

The best is really, ftp://download.intel.com/design/, leads to Intel’s knowhow /design doc site. It’s the instructions followed by computer manufacturers / the core of PC development. And not extremely difficult.

Only one remark on “This Windows XP has emulated soundblaster built-in”

The soundblaster Technology is hardware implemented technology, Microsoft as under heavy sanctions by US courts are now not permitted to suppress any other technology.

Ms have essentially never invented or constructed any essential computer tech, just bias’d on the fast development of mass produced hardware / microelectronics in recent years.

27th April 2002: GenRTCW Help Wanted
Here’s an email concerning ‘GenRTCW’:

The project GenRTCW, with it’s goal to bring back classic Wolf3D in Return to Castle Wolfenstein has made good progress. We found a way to stay legal without any copyright breakings of the classic game.

But we need more people in our team, we need urgently people who can help on coding on the RTCW Mod source, and we need people who can model 3d things. If you are the one, please contact me at genrtcw@chefmail.de“.

Here’s a pic from the project. Click on it for a bigger pic.

There are more pics here.

23th April 2002: Countdown to Disaster released
Gary Ragland has released ‘Countdown To Disaster’. The storyline is the same as ‘Wolf 3D – Episode Six – Confrontation’. There are 13 normal levels, plus a Boss and 2 secret levels. As is usual from Gary, they are of high quality – and they are quite extensive. There are many graphics imported from ‘Spear’ and also some source code changes such as a different music order and two new keys. A very good set overall.  Needs the full version of ‘Wolf 3D’ to play.

23th April 2002: Help required
Here’s an email requesting help from Kyle:

Is there an experienced source code editor who knows how to add a Godmode Artefact, and a Transporter? (like in sod 2)“.

If anyone can help with the above, please email Kyle at Wolf3dkyle@aol.com.

  • New menu text color
  • New menu text Ex: New game is now start path
  • Read this! added
  • Blood splatters
  • New “quit” remarks
  • BIG: Guards smoke cigarettes and when they see you they drop them on the floor. (Like in West Wall with the chairs!)
  • SS with needle gun

The demo will be done in one to two weeks.

Thanks Edward for the above info. Brian.

17th April 2002: Raw Meat pics
Ryan Steinbruner sent me a set of pics from his upcoming add-on ‘Raw Meat’.

17th April 2002: Haunted House nearly done
Codetech tells me that a ‘Haunted House’ demo will be released shortly (probably next week). There’s also news of a new project – the title has not been decided yet – but the story is something like this: You’re onboard a huge spacecraft that has an ability to create a gate to another dimension…Your calculations were wrong and you end up somewhere unexpected… that’s where everything starts to go wrong…

It will include at least the following features:

  • Reloadable weapons (also in Haunted House)
  • Weapons heat up (some of them)
  • At least 10 weapons (weight limit)
  • Weight limit
  • Your armor, weapon, bullets, etc… consume your energy (not health), and you can throw stuff away to make it easier to walk
  • Inventory (Also in Haunted House)
  • + more to come

These features may/may not be done:

  • Own buddies to help you fight the alien scum
  • Aliens attack the closest one you or your buddies
  • Buddies also have a variety of weapons (machinegun, pistol, grenade…)
  • “Facehuggers” seen in alien movies! 😀

14th April 2002: Heaven And Hell/new tutorials section
Luke Strauman has added a coding/tutorials section to his site. It’s at Wolf 3D Heaven And Hell.

14th April 2002: Project: Weltuntergang updated
An updated version of Project: Weltuntergang has been released by Kuki. This fixes some bugs in the maps and an end screen in the earlier version, and has a larger ‘read me’ file. There is also an alternative Wolf3-D.exe file which plays better on newer comps. For those who already have the TC, there is an update with just the new files. Kuki also sent me an email regarding his upcoming TC ‘Silent Assault’:

Information on ‘Silent Assault’ – from Kuki

“I’m going to make an addon called Silent Assault. It won’t be a go-ahead-and-kill-everybody game, just like most of the addons are. I want it to make the player think. You’ll have to sneak between enemy patrols, kill quietly single enemies and hide their bodies to avoid alarm and so on (like in Commandos:BEL – BTW, a great game). I won’t probably begin it before June, but I’m already collecting good ideas. Here’s some of them:

  • new maps, graphics & sounds, of course
  • light shading (for walls & objects)
  • guards don’t see at long ranges, and if it’s dark or foggy their seeing range is reduced
  • weapons: knife, pistol, pistol with silencer, machine gun, grenades, flamethrower, sniper rifle
  • silent knife
  • the knife kills with one attack if the guard doesn’t know about you
  • silenced machinegun (it’s heard from some range, but not on the whole floor)
  • crawling, so the guards can see you only from a short range
  • hiding behind objects (they block some of the bullets and the guards’ seeing range is reduced by objects)
  • alarm boxes – if a guard is alarmed and gets to an alarm box he starts an alarm on the whole level (or only on certain floors – “alarm floors” full of nazi soldiers ) [like in RTCW]
  • if you start an alarm on one level, there’re more guards on the next ones
  • a torch – you see better in darkness, but the guards also see you better
  • no super-hard-to-kill bosses
  • new music (new songs, not only new songs order)
  • guards get alarmed if they see a dead guard, so you have to take dead guards with you and hide them in safe places
  • no treasures [yeah, they’re stupid, who will go around bunkers and seek for heavy, shiny things]
  • holes and ladders
  • many outside levels
  • some of the doors don’t close automatically
  • some of the doors opening like in Ken’s Labirynth
  • speed reduced if you’re carrying heavy weapons or too much ammo
  • you can throw away a weapon or ammo to move faster
  • running allowed only for short distances
  • Panzerfaust soldiers
  • nazi snipers
  • dogs are more dangerous
  • kicking
  • exploding barrels
  • light switching on and off (when the lamps are on there’s really more light in the bunker, so the guards can see better and so does the player)
  • pointer appears after you press some key (or you can have it all the time)
  • some short movies (???)
  • medals for completing mission with good stats
  • some useful items can be found in parachute drops
  • you can carry exploding barrels (used as bombs)
  • you have to reload weapons
  • you can find some nazi clothes and dress into them – enemy won’t attack you
  • rats
  • you can get to a stationary Heavy Machine Gun and kill enemies having a lot of ammo (like in RTCW)
  • snow, desert and forest environment
  • improved aiming system (you won’t shoot at the guy who is nearest but at the one you’re really aiming at)
  • a little improved AI (yeah, there’s no AI in Wolf, so it won’t be hard to improve it :-))
  • guards won’t come close to you when you’re using a flamethrower (it has limited range of course)
  • landmines
  • maybe trucks if that guy who made them allows me to use them
  • enemies killed with a flamethrower don’t die in the standard way, but they burn
  • gas mask
  • civilians
  • you can throw the knife (?)
  • friendly guys (???)

If you have some other ideas, please mail me, but I want SA to be rather realistic, so no force-fields, holowalls, teleports, etc. are allowed.

Kuki”

Thanks Kuki for the above info. Brian.

14th April 2002: MCS’ Coding Tips!
MCS has a new section on the AreyeP/MCS Site called MCS’ Coding Tips. It has some lesser known information not generally found on other tutorial sites. As well as tutorials, there’s also info on compiling the code.

14th April 2002: Email from Ripper
Ripper (of Chaos-Software) sent me the following email:

I’m the only active member of Chaos-Software right now and after five months of inactivity I’ve begun to work on our project again. The result is a public test version including the following features:

  • Fullscreen mode
  • Lightshading (based on FLO’s lightshading algorithms)
  • Respawning (5th difficult level)
  • Floor and ceiling textures
  • Star sky with a moon
  • Snow and rain

The maps don’t really fit to the engine (they are the one’s of Operation Zusammenkunft) but this packages’ intention is just to show the world a small piece of what is possible 😉

I’d be very happy, if you could mention something about this on your news page and refer to our site: http://www.chaos-software.org.

There the test version is available for download 🙂

Thanks, greets and enjoy this test version ;D

Ripper

Thanks Ripper for the above info – Brian.

13th April 2002: Monthly Dome Award Announced
This months Dome Award has gone to Jack Ryerson for his outstanding TC ‘Chemical Warfare’.

13th April 2002: Ryan de Haast news
Here’s an email I received from Ryan de Haast.

Hello everyone – firstly, it will be sometime before my site is updated and fully running.

Secondly, the features for my next up and coming add-on called “Double Trouble” are:

  • Spear of Destiny engine
  • Collapsable Columns
  • New Enemies (Forest Guard; Aero drone clone)
  • New bosses
  • 21 New levels
  • New graphics
  • New doors + door frames
  • 6 New keys
  • New Weapons
  • Much more…(Still busy with)

Thirdly, I’m currently busy with the graphics and will be starting with the coding as soon as possible, here’s how far I am with the graphics:

Weapons – 100%
Enemies – 10%
Sprites – 12%
Walls – 10%
Menu Graphics – 2%

Fourthly, a friend of mine, that goes by the name of Chris Waugh has started his first add-on called the “German Invasion”. Here’s the basic storyline in it:

It’s the 1940’s and Churchill has been captured by the SS. Your mission as Jack Micheals is to destroy and wipe out the underground bunker of the Gestapo and get Churchill out of there before the Germans take over Britain.

Thanks Ryan for the above info. Ryan’s site is the Wolfenstein Cabin.

7th April 2002: Chemical Warfare released
Jack Ryerson has released his TC ‘Chemical Warfare’. There are more than 40 very well designed levels which loosely follow the plot of episode four. Some graphics are from other TC’s and there are many source code changes, but ‘Chemical Warfare’ retains the atmosphere of the original game very well.

7th April 2002: Gary Ragland/upcoming TC
Gary Ragland sent me the following info on his upcoming TC.

It’s going to have 13 levels, plus a boss level (featuring The General), and 2 *really* well-hidden secret levels. Its sort of like what ‘Countdown to Disaster’ was supposed to be, just a little less grandiose. All I did with the new EXE was allow for continuous level flow, 4 keys, and changed ceiling colors, music order and par times… nothing fancy.

One thing a little different here is that the levels are HUGE (almost all go for the full 64×64) … helped out by the use of 2 more keys. Most of my previous levels were pretty compact, even on ‘Schabbs 2000′, so it’s a slight change of pace. One of ’em took me over 10:00 to beat… and I was the one who made it! Other than that, it’s just a regular 14-level add-on with its own EXE.

I’m finished with everything except one regular level, and the two secret levels; I should definitely be done by the end of April. I sent Chokster the levels for a little testing.

Thanks Gary for the above info, and good luck with the TC!!

7th April 2002: Jack’s WOLF-3D PAGE now online
Back with Jack Ryerson, his new site is now up and running. It look’s good, there’s many sections, and is called Jack’s WOLF-3D PAGE.

Here are 2 more pics that Luke Strauman sent me from his upcoming TC ‘Area 51’.

4th April 2002: Spear Fan Club closing
Bobby Bucksnort is closing down the Spear Yahoo Club (Group). Since the migration to Yahoo Groups there had been many difficulties with Yahoo and they failed to iron out the problems. Bobby said “People have posted at the club and their messages have not been put on the board. I have posted several myself and they were not put up. I am thinking about a message board or other possible ideas.”

2nd April 2002: Wolf3D Texture Library
Steve Walley has started a ‘Wolfenstein 3D Texture Library’. It has only very limited content at the moment, but it’s a small taste of what’s to come.

Steve hopes to add a range of tutorials and freely available pre made graphics to it over time so that it becomes a decent resource for those looking to move away from the original Wolf graphics (thereby helping to escape the attention of id software should people aspire to make a ‘total conversion’).

The Texture Library is located at MCS’ and Steve’s website http://www.areyep.com.

31st March 2002: Dome Wallpaper Contest
Here (at last) are the results of the ‘Dome Wallpaper Contest’. Thanks to Tris, Steve and others who helped in deciding the results. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone for participating. As stated in the rules, all entries will remain available on the ‘contests’ page.

31st March 2002: Loading times
There have been a number of complaints regarding the loading times of Dome pages, and to help reduce them the ‘seasons greetings…’ message is being removed. This was found to increase loading times considerably. I have already removed it from several pages, including this one and the index page.

30th March 2002: Area 51 pic
Luke Strauman sent me the following pics from his upcoming TC ‘Area 51’.

29th March 2002: Now or Never!! released

29th March 2002: Zach’s site updated
Zach Higgins Projekt: Vertilgung site has been revamped with a brand new look. Also, here’s an email I received from Zach…

Here’s an update on ‘Projekt Vertilgung’: There are only a few levels to go and graphics are basically complete. Just some touching up here and there to do. Sounds are a different matter. Right now all I really need is a glass breaking sound (that I don’t have to edit because neither James or I have the ability or software to do it ourselves.)

If anyone wants to help out, Zach’s email is WolfenDude87@aol.com.

29th March 2002: Icon set released
Peter Johansson has sent me a set of Wolf3D related icons. Here’s just a few of them – there are many others included in the set.

28th March 2002: General’s Clone released
This is Kyle’s third set and this time there are quite a number of source code changes, including 200 health/150 ammo, 2 new keys, deathcams removed and changed music. There are also ten new levels, plus some new graphics and sounds. I only played the first level thus far and it’s quite extensive and has lots of mutants.

28th March 2002: Noah’s Ark Editor
Ryan Steinbruner tells me he’s found a program called ‘Noah’s Ark’ that lets you edit ceiling and floor textures. He’ll be posting it on his site at Gamers World Wide.

26th March 2002: Wolf Reborn
Zach Higgins has released an alternative set of graphics and sounds for the full version called Wolf Reborn, which is ideal for map sets that don’t come with new vswap/audio files. Some come from ‘Spear Resurrection’ and ‘Totengraeber’. Others are Zach’s own work and one is from Tris’s ‘Final Solution’. You have to supply the maps. I used my own Wolfbel2 maps and they came out well – the original atmosphere is still there.

26th March 2002: Wolfenstein Cabin opened
Ryan de Haast has moved his site to a new url called the Wolfenstein Cabin. Here’s the affiliate button and logo for the new site…

23rd March 2002: Soldier of Destiny pic

17th March 2002: Christmas of Arielus
Ten new maps by Ariel Castañares and graphics are from Xmas Wolf in this shareware set just released. Again, the levels are pretty good and utilize the graphics well. Don’t miss the secret level because it’s best of the bunch.

17th March 2002: Ryan Steinbruner new website
Ryan Steinbruner has a new website. There’s a long list of links and you can download a number of files, including his ‘Pukenstein’ add-on. It’s called Gamers World Wide.

12th March 2002: Another Arielus mapset
Ariel Castañares has sent me another mapset. This one is for Wolf 3D and has sixty new levels. Made between 1996 and 1998, there’s original graphics this time. The levels are of a high standard and fans who prefer the atmosphere of the original game will particularly like this one.

If you want to contact Ariel about the game, his email is at spaceraker@hotmail.com.

12th March 2002: Yahoo Clubs to Groups update
Virtually all the Yahoo Clubs listed in our links section have now migrated to Yahoo Groups. The only one still ‘migrating’ is DHW. All changed links have been updated. Was the change worth it? I’m only lukewarm to it. The new features are nice but the extra ads can get annoying.

10th March 2002: Quake 1 Only is back
After seemingly taking forever, ‘Quake 1 Only Club’ has finally completed its migration to Yahoo Groups and seems to be working normally.

10th March 2002: Wolf 3D Map Gifs

10th March 2002: Gameboy Advance conversion
There’s news on the Wolfenstein 3D conversion to the “Game Boy Advance” console at ebgames. Thanks to Quinnsey for providing this info.

8th March 2002: More from Sam
Here’s another email from Sam Feichter:

Hey All!

I would like to tell you all that March 17th is my birthday! I will be 15 (Hell yes!). (Happy Birthday to me….). Well, I have been busy, and I will be for a couple more months, maybe until the end of the school year.

So please don’t bug me AS much.

Sam“.

8th March 2002: Yahoo Clubs/Groups migration
Two of the Wolf3D Yahoo Clubs have now completed their migration to Yahoo Groups and now seem to be working normally. They are:

  • SPEAR OF DESTINY FAN CLUB
  • James’ Coding Club

Two other clubs (Die Hard Wolfers/Quake 1 Only) are still ‘migrating’ and hopefully they will join Yahoo Groups soon.

4th March 2002: Arielus’ Spear of Destiny released
Ariel Castañares made a Spear of Destiny mapset a couple years ago, and has now released it on the Wolf 3D scene. There’s plenty of new cartoon type graphics (mostly not seen elsewhere), but the levels are pretty good too which is unusual for this fun type of set.

Here’s some info that Ariel (who made the game) asked to be posted:

Here I write a few details you asked for:

Creator: Norberto Ariel Castañares
Creator’s home: Claypole, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Creation’s name: Spear Of Destiny “Arielus”
Date of creation: From 1997 to 1998 (I finished it on the day of my birthday, which is on May 1st)
Tools used: MapEdit V4.? and WolfEdit V?.? (I don’t remember the versions, but they’re quite old)

Well, I think that’s all the game’s profile, but I must say something to the people who want to have and play my game: It’s okay, it’s all yours, I hope you like it, but if you take some of my graphics or even levels, please write down a note in your game just saying who they belong to, just letting other people know that you’ve taken those graphics or levels from Spear Of Destiny “Arielus”.

If you want to contact Ariel about the game, his email is at spaceraker@hotmail.com.

4th March 2002: PG’s Wolf3D Site Moved
Patrick Gray tells me his PG’s Wolf3D Site has moved. Also that Bravenet has closed down, so a few of the features that Patrick had on the old site are gone (i.e. counter, poll, newsletter, add-a-link). Hopefully though, the new site should solve the problems with Geocities bandwidth restrictions.

4th March 2002: TROS Screenshot

2nd March 2002: James’ Wolfenstein 3D Galaxy back online
Now on a new server, James’ Wolfenstein 3D Galaxy is back online.

2nd March 2002: More on sound problems
Peter Johansson has replied to the following email sent in by John Burnett…

I read the Wolf3d on WinXP about running the Wolf3d on Windows 9X including ME, let me talk about “Windows 2000/XP Unknown”, I’ve been playing both Wolfenstein 3D and TC’s on Windows 2000 without any problem for four months and I’m still playing. But It would not work with sound nor music under windows – if it will work depends specific of sound card what you have. My sound card brand is Avance AC ’97 Audio for Via Audio Controller on mainboard and it doesn’t support this by Wolf3d. I tried on windows 9(all) includes DOS 6.22, and it doesn’t work either. I wish Id Software would update this game to work on all sound cards including new ones. WOLFENSTEIN 3D is number ONE in First Person Shooter Games than all of other games. I been playing Wolfenstein 3D since 1995.

My Other computer has a Sound Blaster Card installed and works with sound and music while playing. Not on new mainboard w/audio controller as above.

John Burnett

Here is Peter’s reply…

RE wolf3d sound compatibility.

The program is written for the most advanced synthesizer technology out there, the Creative soundblaster.

This or an emulated soundblaster will work.

Don’t think anyone is ready to rewrite the code for simpler synthesizer technology, and the remedy is simply… to avoid, as Intel named them “Baby ATX” motherboards, with very few system expansion slots and built in soundcards.

To be careful when buying laptops.

Go for at the least, a medium ATX boards (Mid Towers) with at least six expansion / PCI slots so you can put in, a preferrably, real Soundblaster and some other goodies’n stuff, a raid hdd card is highly recommended as one other instance.

There is no problem to use several different soundcards if so.

The experience of running the Roland GM/GS (included in Creative SB PCI and up) at the Blaster synthesizer is close to irreplacable.

And, don’t waste too much money on the “OS”, Win32/NT labels.

P.J.

Thanks Peter for the above info. And now a reply from John Burnett…

Thanks to Peter, I suspected that Sound Blaster is there when I check it in BIOS setup. You called “baby ATX mainboard”, I know it means, that one I called “Micro ATX mainboard” To make sure Sound Blaster is enbled and configure the IRQ to 9 or 10, Address to 220 and DMA to 1 in BIOS setup, During Boot, the IRQ shows 5 instead of 9 on Mutlimedia line. I’m Laptop Hater for long time. Because it somehow has limited hardware on those laptop. I work on Computer Place in Kansas. recommand that you to get away any MATX (BATX} with Audio builtin and Grab Real Sound Card like Creative which it has real SB. I knew it was weird on one of those mainboard that had a few expansion slots, But more new ATX mainboards like P4 and Athlon XP now have Audio built-in around everywhere I noticed, This might have 5 or 6 PCI slots, AGP port and Audio controller built-in. It can disable by configure them in BIOS setup and add Sound card to work this wolfenstein 3d depends what kind of brand on sound card has like Peter said.

John Burnett

Wolfenstein 3d favorite“.

28th February 2002: Pineapplestein Released

Well, it’s finally here!! Pineapples in various sizes. It’s made by Daniel Mckone, Kody “Jo” Dagley, and Evan “NEO” Newton. (Evan got his nickname from The Matrix, Dan’s all-time favourite movie). Good for those who like fun sets. There are 60 levels made by the Creator program.

Ken Rohrer has sent me a Wolf Scenario for the Mac called Search For Osama. I don’t have a Mac computer and so I’ve not been able to check it out myself.

28th February 2002: Dome Award/Feb 2002
Rather belatedly (due to work by both Tris and myself on our upcoming add-on), our award this time goes to Ryan de Haast for his outstanding add-on ‘Rising Evil’. Although there were several new sets released recently, this one stood out for its all round quality. Congratulations Ryan!!

28th February 2002: Juan J. Alva Message/New Midi
Juan J. Alva sent me the following email

Hello fellow Wolfenfans,

As you know that even though my site has been wiped out from Homestead because they got greedy and decided to charge me, my compositions are still intact and around. And my friend Brian will keep them alive in his site. I have just made another addition to my already recognized collection of Wolfenstein transcriptions from the game. And let it be known that the copyright of each and every single song belong to Robert Prince, and I only take credit to have transcribed them. Anyhow… I am joining the U.S. Army and pursue a great career in Computers and music, and want you to know that even in the Military I will continue my musical works on Wolfenstein.

My purpose for making these midi’s is only for your musical enjoyment alone, and I will continue to provide you with that enjoyment so that you know how Robert Prince knows how to rock through others.

22nd February 2002: Project: Weltuntergang news update
Kuki sent me some news on ‘Project:Weltuntergang’. Work on the maps was delayed due to school work, but has now restarted. There’s 5 maps to do, so the add-on will be completed soon. Here’s a screenshot from a motorcycle level.

22nd February 2002: Wolf3D on Windows XP
Here’s an email I received from Dennie Masser regarding playing Wolf 3D on Windows XP. “
I was reading your ‘New users’ questions’ when I saw that you did not know how the games would run using, ‘Windows NT/2000/XP: unknown. (anyone?)’ I can only tell you about Windows XP. The games seem to work fine except that there is no music, and you don’t hear certain other sounds like, picking up ammo or when you press the space bar. You do hear doors opening and secret passages.

Thanks Dennie – that’s similar to what I found on Windows ME. And here’s a follow up from Elaine: “I was running Me then upgraded to Xp Professional and if you use the pc speaker sound option then you can hear ammo being picked up and the space bar etc + you get the door sounds etc out of your speaker–but there is no way to get music… One thing I did notice though–on a totally unrelated topic– I could play rise of the triad on Me but NO GO for Xp.

Continuing with this thread, here’s a reply from Peter Johansson,

These problems are simply due to Microsoft’s “automation” of the Windows virtual machine start from dos.

Leaving the user few to none options to start the synthesizer part of the sounds of Wolf3d. I can start XP and ME directly to dos, so it works like 16 bit Windows 3 where you must type win or have win command in autoexec.bat, so it ought to be possible to start the sound card synthesizers. Have personally no interest to waste my time on a “product line” that disables users possibility to interact in processes.

It’s only pathetic to see how consumers in practice cut’s of their main extremities of interaction while cheated up by Microsoft’s attempts to apply super computer technology on simple PC architectures, O.K. if they’ve done it on IBM ASI machines, but don’t think they are ready to spend 300,000,00 $us on each guinea pig out there.

With my Best !! P.J.

And yet another reply, from John Burnett:

17th February 2002: Email from Sam Feichter
Sam sent me this email today:

Hey, all, whats up.

My site is down, thanks to yet another computer crash. I am working on a new one very soon. You can go there to look at stuff, but it will not be updated anymore.

Gorenstein 2 is also erased. I will download a copy from this site (thank God I gave a copy to Brian), and start back on the game again. If anyone wants to help me with episodes 2-6, I will be happy to add them to the credits, and give them a section to work on. Of course, I have to finish this game of Mortal Kombat first….:)

Your good friend Sam

14th February 2002: Wolftendo Add-on/pic

Luke Strauman has sent me two pics from his upcoming TC ‘Area 51’.

13th February 2002: Sector 27 Demo news
Sector 27 Demo willl be released sometime near the end of the week. The Demo will have nine levels and maybe a secret one. Many new source code changes have been made. Here are some of them:

  • Static missile turrents
  • More hazards such as steam pipes
  • Ventilation shafts
  • Security cameras, if they see you they will send out guards
  • Increased puzzle feel on the higher levels

The episode takes place in the inner command bunker at the base. You are trying to shut down the communications system so you can have support later. More on the story line will be released in a read me file.

The first four levels are office levels – mostly like the original game with perhaps a puzzle here and there. At levels five through seven is where the source code changes really take effect. In these levels you can not just blast through some areas or you will be completely cut off by the security. Areas where you must be quite are marked by steel walls with signs on either side of the door leading into that area.

When you leave those areas you will know when it’s safe to fire your weapon again because you’ll pass between two steel walls without signs. Your knife can silently take care of guards in quiet areas without alerting the security. However officers cannot be killed quitely even with a knife. Level seven ends with you shutting down the system. Level eight is you escaping level seven and trying to get back to the ground level. Level nine is level one and you must escape from where you came.

Thanks to Fgkjrujkuejrn for the above info.

6th February 2002: Hitler’s Maze of Death released
Although it’s just one level, Hitler’s Maze Of Death is quite extensive. And the only original actor is Adolf himself. The ammo allowance at the start may look quite generous but believe me you’ll need it all!! Read the text file before playing as the game can freeze if you let the title screen time out. The author is Patrick Gray.

6th February 2002: Galaxy back online
James Ingham tells me James’ Wolfenstein 3D Galaxy is back online.

6th February 2002: Adolf Hitler’s Revenge bug
Having received a missing key query on episode 1 level 5 of ‘Adolf Hitler’s Revenge’, I checked out the whole set and discovered a number of other bugs and some wall designs that didn’t fit with the supplied vswap. I’ve issued a new maps patch.

  • New graphics
  • New enemies such as chain gun SS guards and drone guns
  • Hazards such as exploding oil drums and laser grids
  • Control panels that switch things off.

I particularly liked the exploding drums. Here’s a pic I made…

28th January 2002: Site links
Kody “Jo” Dagley sent me the following links to new Wolf3D sites. Both are currently under construction so not everything may work.

More pics here.

25th January 2002: The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw released
Peter Johansson has revamped my ‘WolfBel3’ set with changed graphics and sounds (mostly from the final ‘Lost Episodes’ set), and some source code changes. It’s called ‘The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw’. The different graphics and sounds look quite effective and I particularly like ‘the bat’. Please note that for copyright reasons Peter has left out the ‘audiohed.wl6’ file which has to be supplied from the registered Wolf3D set.

More pics here.

Memory problem solved
The memory problem in ‘Project:Weltuntergang’ was solved by James Ingham. AReyeP, ESQ and Jaap also offered to help. Kuki (the author) would like to thank all you guys!

23rd January 2002: Help wanted
I received this email today from ‘Mynameisnobody14’. Please help if you can…

Subject: Virgin Wolf TC author in dire peril! Send help and/or women ASAP!

Hi, I’m really stuck with my TC, and I don’t have the equipment or the knowhow to get everything finished. I don’t have c++ and my laptop won’t let me join any helpful groups, so I have no access to forums.

A friend is helping me but he can only do so much, since he’s got other things to worry about. Please talk to your associates and see if they are willing to pitch in, or at least post my plight and email address in a forum for me! I’m drownin’ here!

I need the sounds for my TC properly converted (I got a problem with my sound programs to clean up before I can download cooledit). I need someone who knows how to replace the title and endgame graphics of SOD without them looking like crap (the colors always invert or something). Also, anyone who can edit text/source code in general would be great.

I’d post this in a forum myself, but again all the good forums are in groups, and I can’t join any for some reason. Volunteers will get mentioned in the ending credits. My email is Mynameisnobody14@aol.com.

Thanks!

23rd January 2002: Wolfenstein Special Edition pics
Here’s some pics from Luke Strauman’s upcoming TC ‘Wolfenstein Special Edition’. There’s a new feature added too – a shotgun that reloads!!

22nd January 2002: Perfect Darkenstein Demo released
Kody ‘Jo’ Dagley has released a ten level demo of his upcoming set Perfect Darkenstein. I found the level design to be pretty good, plus many of the graphics and sounds are totally original. A lot of work has been put into this set!! All files are included.

20th January 2002: Wolf 3D Chamber closed down
The Yahoo Club ‘Wolf 3D Chamber’ has closed down. I particularly liked this club – it had its own distinctive style – but I guess there were just too many Wolf3D Fan Clubs.

20th January 2002: First Dome Award
Paal Olstad has been given our first ‘Wolf 3D Dome Award’ (Jan 2002) for his excellent Spear add-on ‘The Tower’. You can download the set from Poet’s Wolfenstein Page.

20th January 2002: Help wanted
Kuki sent me the following email concerning a problem with ‘Project Weltuntergang’…

Project: Weltuntergang has nearly all graphics and source changes finished and there’re 14 maps to do. But I’ve got a problem. My Project is a great memory-eater. Even with all the memory bars (Main, EMS & XMS) full at the start you can’t resize the view to full screen, game sometimes exits in High Scores, sometimes you can’t do quick-loads, etc. I’m looking for someone who could help solve it.

Thanks Kuki, if anyone can help with the above problem please email him.

16th January 2002: Rising Evil
Here’s some ratios on the completion of ‘Rising Evil’:

  • Graphics – 80%
  • Coding – 100%
  • Levels – 97%
  • Sounds – 25%

Thanks to Ryan de Haast for sending me the above info. Ryan is hoping to release ‘Rising Evil’ at the end of January.”

15th January 2002: The Tower released
Paal Olstad has released his new set for Spear called ‘The Tower’. All 21 levels are new, and from what I played thus far, it looks very good indeed. Lots of new features. Here’s a shot from the opening level. Watch those light green puddles or you won’t last long!!

Although this is a TC, for copyright reasons Paal has left out the ‘audiohead’ file which you have to supply from the original full Spear. You can download ‘The Tower’ from Poet’s Wolfenstein Page.

15th January 2002: Reinstaad Demo bug found
For those who downloaded ‘Reinstaad Demo’ before today, please note there’s a missing pushwall in level 3 preventing access to the blue key. Thanks to A. Nonymous for pointing this out, and providing this patch

14th January 2002: Himmler’s SS Released
Luke Strauman has released Himmler’s SS. There are 14 levels (3 episodes), plus lots of graphics, sounds and source code changes. I particularly like the street effects in episode 3. Here are just some of the new features:

  • Brand New Levels
  • A flame Thrower and rocket launcher
  • Changed ceiling & floor colors
  • 6 weapons in total
  • 3 Ammo types
  • New help and end screens edited
  • Everlasting enemies on last level
  • Tons and tons of more stuff

The following pic comes from the start of the third episode.

14th January 2002: Wolf3D Realm/new URL
Chad Allard tells me the ‘Wolf3D Realm’ is now at http://www.wolf3drealm.cjb.net. There will be periods during the next few days though when the site is down due to updates. Good luck Chad with the new server!!

13th January 2002: Wolf3D Odyssey Reviewed
‘Wolf3D Odyssey’ is a shareware v1.0 set that AReyeP made way back in the mid 90’s. There are 10 large well designed levels. The various ways in which the guards are used are particularly effective. All files are included in the supplied zip.

13th January 2002: Wolf 3D News change
To avoid unnecessary duplication of ‘Wolf3D News’ ( I was having to edit 3 different pages – one for ‘The Dome’ – and 2 for the ‘Demon’ site), I am now posting all the latest news on this page only. The ‘Demon’ site has been renamed Wolfenstein 3D News Archive and will be used to store all items more than a few months old.

13th January 2002: Himmler’s SS bug fixed
Luke Strauman tells me ‘Himmler’s SS’ is now working OK. Thanks to MCS for solving the problem. I’ll post the set here as soon as I get it.

10th January 2002: Himmler’s SS release delayed
The release of ‘Himmler’s SS’ has been delayed due to an error code 13 problem, which is shown below. If anyone can help solve it, please email Luke.

10th January 2002: Troubleshooting section updated
Peter Johansson’s series of emails on ‘Troubleshooting’ has been updated with a new section titled ‘Wolf3D Quirks’.

‘The Wolfenstein 3D Vault’ has closed down. Jack Ryerson, who promoted the site last, is planning a new site on a new url.

6th January 2002: ‘New’ Spear Map Sets
Peter Johansson has sent me two Spear map sets dating from late 1995, but I haven’t seen them before. They are both by Robert S. Bradbury. The first is named Festung, and the other is named Mission One (screenshot shown below).

I found the ‘Mission One’ set easily the better designed of the two. Both sets have all 21 levels changed, and need the registered set to play.

6th January 2002: Spear VSWAP
Peter also sent me an alternative VSWAP for the full ‘Spear’, put together from various sources. I found the ‘Bat’ replacement of the ‘zombie’ the most interesting feature but there’s lots of other changes!!

4th January 2002: PG News
Patrick Gray has added a page to his PG’s Wolf 3D site with non-wolfenstein games that are playable with the SNES emulator he posted.

Also from Patrick, his January awards are

4th January 2002: Wolf3D for Quake3 Engine
A group has joined together to bring back Wolf3D on Quake3 Engine for the RTCW game. This mod will be done in a way that it doesn’t break copyrights, but still rocks as the classic game.

I received a set of four pics sent in by ‘mynameisnobody14’. Here’s one of them.
