I think I will use Mac Wolf sounds, they seem to have a correct German, but I can be wrong.”

They are very well made and with the new vswap, create quite an atmospheric scenario. The levels are also designed to be played with the original Wolf3D vswap (not supplied). The game uses the WOLF4GW engine. I couldn’t get the game to run with DOSBox, though it does run with VDMSound. Downloaders are recommended to read the readme file before playing.

There’s a number of new graphics and these blend in quite nicely and are particularly effective in outdoor scenes. 8th July 2007: W3dMapTx Released

Matthew Barich has written a program in C# that will randomly mix up the different textures for stone textures (like Gray Stone), so you don’t have to do it yourself. This can make things a lot easier with level designing, and also ensures a uniformly random distribution. It works with Mapedit saved maps. Be sure to read the readme.txt file first. Because it’s written in C#, the program requires the Microsoft .NET 2 environment to be installed. It’s likely that .NET 2 is installed already on your computer (many programs install it), but if it isn’t installed and you get an error, you can download it from Microsoft.

6th June 2007: Multiplayer Engine HUGE Update

Here’s an email I received from JJ Erickson, concerning the Wolf3D Multiplayer Engine: Ok it’s another awesome update from Carnevil and I – the new Multiplayer Engine – almost a year in the making will be available for a closed beta testing.

There are 5 deathmatch arenas, 2 co-operative levels and 1 capture the life orb level. This is a huge event for the classic Wolfer community and I’d like to thank Carnevil for some of the skulltag source. Carnevil says “there are also 3 new bosses for single player in addition to 3 new weapons, a flamethrower, a grenade and a landmine”.

A new script master to the group coded the game types. His name is Joseph van Hoche – he is a complete master to the multiplayer engine code. Also, I re-did some of the graphics in the game to suit this new engine:
-added deathorb (kills player on sight).
-added advanced teleporter (has animated warp sprite just like Doom).
-added new menu items (unlockables, cheats, online play, join game, scroll bar, adv. controls).
-it’s in its own client! – thanks to Joseph.
Message to all: if you’ve got time, head on over to my IRC chat server:irc.Caelestia.net (or org).

Here’s an email received from Tricob: “My TC’s plans have officially changed – I’m moving from the original SOD palette and 64×64 images to 128×128 images with a different palette, so all the 64×64 images I’ve already made for my mod aren’t going to be used. I’m therefore releasing the 64×64 version of the walls and sprites to the general public for use in their own TCs. There’s two new enemies, six new treasure items, several new wall images (Sorry about the gaudy mansion wall; the palette worked against me), and a few other new sprites.”

The link to the ‘Sewer Town’ addon is no longer working. The author Howling Wolf has asked me to provide a temporary link until his new server is up. This may take several weeks. Howling Wolf also tells me that the ‘Battlestein 3D’ project is being worked on again and will have a number of additional features like a newer status bar, a number of items and kills display, 4 weapons and 3 teleports W/S/E. Meanwhile, ‘Sewer Town’ is now available.

2nd January 2007: Ghost Betrayal Released

Joshua Waight has released ‘Ghost Betrayal’. The 8 levels are fairly extensive and quite well decorated. There’s a mix of new and original Wolf3D graphics though much of the Wolf3D feel still remains. There’s also a mix of new and original sounds and the music includes Linkin Park and Metallica. The exe is from ‘Wolfenstein Collection’ by MCS Amsterdam.
