25th December 2012: Operation Eisenfaust : Origins – Christmas pack
Team Raycast has released a special Eisenfaust Christmas edition – with a set of exciting new bonus maps, including one (revisited) scrapped bonus map from original “Eisenfaust”.

Maps make good use of “Eisenfaust” features and ideas sometimes underused in the original game.

Mappers: RonWolf, DoomJedi (detailed credits in “Xmas pack ReadMe.txt”)

25th December 2012: Beyond Mutantstein SE Anniversary Edition released
‘Beyond Mutantstein SE Anniversary Edition 2002-2012’ released!

This is the (tenth) anniversary edition of Beyond Mutantstein Special Edition, the tribute game to John Bucksnort released on 25 December 2002.

A decade has now passed and with SoD/Wolf3D being 20 years old, John’s mods still remain usual favourites or -in the worst case- true referents of a very distinctive style of modding.

In spite of the various modifications that were made upon the original tribute set (primarily involving some minor code and graphic tweaks), this product should be seen, mainly, as a new set of maps to our decade-old mod.

This 10-year anniversary consists of 19 levels involving 18 different mappers (quite possibly and unprecedentedly large number of different architects in a single mod?). It was basically decided that priority should be given to those who worked on the first Beyond Mutantstein Special Edition back in 2002 (and who were still present in the scene or otherwise reachable), to the remaining Bucksnorts, and then to the more experienced/advanced mappers in the community. Hopefully the end result will have been to your satisfaction and, as said by someone involved in the original mod released back in 2002, something that John would have been proud of.

Hopefully you will enjoy this tribute game to John Bucksnort!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you and your beloved ones.

20th December 2012: Operation: Kill BJ SDL released
Operation: Kill BJ SDL Tricob has released the “SDL Edition” of one of his older mods, “Operation: Kill BJ!”. This release fixes numerous problems with the older mod, and it now showcases some of the new Static Objects demonstrated in the MyMod4SDL demo. There are 60 levels of various sizes, but while most are from the “Kill BJ” mod or “The Wolf3D Community Map Pack”, E1L1, E6L7, and E6L8 are completely new. The EXE was made from the “Base Of Operations” source code, and features bleeding enemies, “empty” medical kits and food, and animated Static Objects.

16th December 2012: Guten Tag! released
Thomas Weiling has released a map set for shareware Wolfenstein named ‘Guten Tag!’. Originally started as a Lost Episodes map set, it nonetheless ended up for shareware Wolf. It features 4 new levels.

15th December 2012: MyMod4SDL – Construction Kit v1.3 patch released
Tricob tells me that the following is a source code patch for the Construction Kit of MyMod4SDL. The code update fixes a long-existing bug in the “Spawn Empty Health” routine when the player “eats” food or uses a medical kit.

15th December 2012: MyMod4SDL v1.3 patch released
Tricob has released a Version 1.3 patch for the MyMod4SDL 1-level Demo. The patch fixes two problems – One, where a vine was spawned in the middle of a wall, and Two, where the Static Objects list would be “littered” with a blank object when food was “eaten” or a medical kit was used.

7th December 2012: ECWolf
ECWolf is an advanced source port for Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny based off of the Wolf4SDL code base. ECWolf pulls a substantial amount of code from ZDoom and aims to provide a wide array of mod editing capabilities without the need to modify the source code. Most importantly you will no longer need to replace entire data sets. With ECWolf you could for example add a weapon without needing to distribute every sprite in the game along with it. Mods will be neatly packaged into a single file just like they are for Doom. It is being developed by Bizut3. There is a Tech Demo created by Executor to download too.

2nd December 2012: Andrew’s Mapset released

The level has the secrets expanded somewhat, and the graphics of the Credits screen, statusbar, and sign-on screen are updated to make the demo feel more complete. Due to increasing the Static Objects limit, saved games from older versions of the demo won’t work.

Today Paal released Wolf Hour + Epilogue 4SDL. Earlier this month he released Wolf-Extra III, 1-6 4SDL. Wolf-Extra SV 4SDL and Wolf-Extra II 4SDL were released in late October. These sets replace the DOS versions.

Open a gamemaps/maptemp file, a Floedit level-file, or a saved game. You may get answers to questions like: Where am I, and what are the guards doing right now? If you want to see what the walls and sprites look like in the game, you can open a VSWAP file.

There are statistics for each level.

Each game type has a standard descriptions file for walls and sprites. You can make one for a favorite game, I have made one for the tribute game as an example.

You can mark one or more items or groups, for example ‘Dogs’, then all the marked items will blink in the whole game.

3rd May 2012: Guns and Glory 0.5 The Story Retold/New music EXE build
Metalor tells me that this new exe build fixes two of the games remaining bugs so now the player can change the music volume without effecting the sounds volume, and the player will hopefully no longer experience the random crashes that occur when the game’s music loops.
This build comes with all of the game’s various songs in OGG format (converted from MIDI to IMF to OGG), and thus is MUCH larger than the original release file. This build is suggested only for those who either prefer the original IMF-esq format of the game’s music or for those who experience the music-crashing bug frequently, otherwise, Metalor suggests that players should not bother with this build.

3rd May 2012: Spear of Destiny: New Sequel
Here’s Sam Geng’s latest add-on for the full version of Spear of Destiny. The mod is based on Megabyte’s SOD Mappack. It brings 21 levels, music from Blake Stone, and some minor graphic changes. The mod retains the original Spear of Destiny feel. Needs the full version of Spear to play.

30th April 2012: Guns and Glory 0.5 The Story Retold graphics update
Metalor has released another update. This one merely fixes and updates a few of the graphics changes to the game.
Here’s a short list of the actual changes:
– Changed the overall graphics for the Nazi Guard and Ironclad enemies
– Reworked the colors on the SS and Nazi Officer to be more vibrant
– Made some slight changes to some static objects and other miscellaneous odds and ends
– Updated the VGAGraphics to coordinate with the changes to the game’s sprites
As planned, there will only be one more update which Metalor will be working on from this point on. That update will feature all of the most current changes in previous updates.
This update only contains graphics changes, and does not feature any of the other game files besides the VSWAP, VGAGRAPH, VGADICT, and the VGAHEAD.

28th April 2012: Odds and Ends released
Here’s another set from Thomas Weiling. It contains all the maps Thomas contributed to various sets and the obscure ‘Hard Cell’ mod from 2009. 21st April 2012: Wolf Overkill released
Thomas Weiling has released an unfinished version of ‘Wolf Overkill’ for SDL. In the works for almost three years, this particular version dates to late 2009. The work done after that time got deleted, and was never properly backed up. Havoc did the coding, and also backed up the source code, so the mod might be finished properly at some point in time.

The many new coding changes include shading, gun bobbing, 7 new enemies, 3 new bosses, missile launcher, radiation suit, exploding barrels and breakable columns and more. 60 levels are featured, but the game will crash after completing level 60 as the set was originally envisioned to contain 100 levels! This set was later withdrawn.

– The Arrow keys can now be customized, but the WASD keys cannot
– Re-tuned a few of the game’s menus
– Fixed several graphics and layout bugs, such as the player starting a level with a disguise
– Some other, minor miscellaneous changes to the game’s code, levels, and graphics

Here is a one handed Wolfenstein pistol, which would be great for a mod with gun bobbing. The set of 6 frames was sent in by Mr. Gerolf.
Also available is a simple Knife edit that could also be useful for mods with gun bobbing.
There’s also an SS update: Mr. Gerolf should be able to finish all 10 levels soon and also the Source. There should be some new screenshots when he finishes the new Source Code. The storyline will also be posted whenever those screenshots are sent.

There are a few remaining bugs and in the coming weeks, Metalor will post an updated EXE that will replace the MIDIs with MP3s for those who find the MIDI-crashing bug to be too irritating.

29th February 2012: Stealth (Demo) released
Here’s a 3 level demo called ‘Stealth’ from Ronwolf1705. This is a stealth mod, as such the typical Wolf3d run-and-gun action can’t be found here. You’ll have to carefully plan your way and make sure you don’t attract too many guards at a time.

Important note!!!
In level 2 you’ll first encounter the officers. Take note that they can’t be killed!!! You have to find some way to get past them without being seen.

Features:
-Backstab kills instantly
-Starting weapon is always the knife
-No guards drop ammo
-Officers are invulnerable (you can still get 100% kills since they are not counted)
-Par times adjusted.

Needs the full version of Wolf3D to play.

21st February 2012: Santa Claws 3D
Andy Nonymous has located a very old set from 1994 called ‘Santa Claws 3D’. It features quite a few novelties for 1994 such as changed episode names and skill levels and the addition of brand new graphics and sounds in addition to material ripped from DOOM. These features were most likely made via Hex editing as the Wolfenstein 3D source was not even publicly available in 1994! A very fun Christmas-themed set. By LynxJSA.

14th January 2012: Unsung SDL version 1.1 released
Nembo has released version 1.1 of ‘Unsung’, a 10 level set which is World War I based. It’s nearly the same yet better. If the control scheme bothered you, fear not for a new control scheme has been implemented using the W, A, S, and D keys. So strafing should be much more easy. On the other hand if you liked the old control scheme using the arrow keys, it is still there also. There’s more info and the download at Mod DB.

Jimmy Cozad has put together a 3DO music mod for Macenstein SDL by Andy Nonymous. Everything needed to run the mod is supplied, including the 2nd and 3rd Encounters. The music can be loud so Jimmy recommends to have the music volume set at 25 for best results (sound fx stays at 100).
