18th November 2006: The Thirteenth Floor Special Edition Update
Matthew Barich has sent in news about ‘The Thirteenth Floor: Special Edition’:
Floor/ceiling textures, light shading, and full screen mode have been added to TTFSE. They look spectacular. In fact, floor and ceiling textures have been created that are meant to go with the original Wolf3D graphics (you’ll get to see what the original Wolf3D might have looked like with floor/ceiling textures.) But yes, many of the graphics will be touched up, and there will be some new graphics. Here are some other facts about TTFSE:
* The full version of TTFSE will have a new mission, The Final Fear. The tagline of this mission is, “What if Hitler had invented nuclear weapons?”
* One new creature in The Final Fear will be a giant spider (inspired by the Megaspider in Armageddon). This spider will be very common in very dark tunnels. You CAN NOT kill this spider, and if you touch it, you die INSTANTLY!
* There will be various random events that will occur from time to time. Also, enemies will, on rare occasions at random, drop special items when killed, like treasure, health, and even keys. If you’re lucky enough for an enemy to drop a key, you may be able to bypass areas of a level and/or reach special secret areas!

The Blazer Forces: Ghost Betrayal
The Blazers have identified a soldier of theirs who has sided with a group of Neo-Nazi terrorists who must be stopped. A young soldier named Jemanie Davidsson (pronounced Gem-an-eye Dave-id-son) has been captured by this enemy during an apprehension mission. 12th November 2006: Space Loons For Wolf3D SW Released
Dr. Von Loon has released the final version of a new addon called ‘Space Loons For Wolf3D Shareware’. The 10 levels are quite extensive. As the title suggests, there’s a sci-fi type scenario. Just one level here in this sequel from Wolfenstein3D Fan. It’s called ‘Kill Him 3 Part 1’ and it’s for SpearOf Destiny. The level is fairly extensive though it can be quite difficult to get past the first few rooms. However, some hints are given in the enclosed story text file. There are a number of graphics changes though the Spear feel remains. More levels will be released in a later version. Needs the full version of Spear Of Destiny to play.

Krystal’s first release is a set of maps called ‘Spear Of Destiny Mission Pack 2’. This demo version has 10 completed maps – a complete 21 level version will be issued later. The maps are quite extensive, well decorated and most need a lot of thought to complete them. Many of the levels need at least one pushwall to be opened to get through. This is quite a good set for a first release and I’m looking forward to seeing the final 21 level version. Needs the full Spear Of Destiny game to play.

1st October 2006: The Lost World Part 4 Screenshots

19th September 2006: NedStats Link Removed
I’ve recently had complaints regarding the popups that occasionally appear when visiting the news page. They are caused by the link to Nedstat, who told me that these popups would normally only occur a few times a week. However, they seem to be appearing more often than that lately so I have taken the link off. There is already another stats counter on the page though it is not as comprehensive.
16th September 2006: Gods Of The Ethereal Reality
Here’s a new set of maps for Spear called ‘Gods Of The Ethereal Reality’. It’s by demondude777, and the 16 new maps are of a fair size with good decoration. Virtually all the graphics are from the original game though there are many new sounds. There are some out of place looking walls on a couple levels but I’m told it’s part of the effect. Needs the full version of Spear Of Destiny to play.

13th September 2006: Help Needed
Here’s an email from James Shain, requesting help for his upcoming addon: “Hi, my name is James Shain and I need some people to help with an addon I am currently working on called Final Fight2 (working title). 29th August 2006: Bug Fix For Wolfenstein Reloaded Released
KFH Games have released a third patch for their ‘Wolfenstein Reloaded – Final Version’. This version contains some new exe updates, plus some minor map and intrart changes. Although ‘saved games’ from the earlier versions won’t work, the unlocking of later episodes (config file) will. Needs the original AUDIOT.WL6 and AUDIOHED.WL6 files from the full Wolf 3D game to play.
The versions I have posted are in rar file format but other formats are available from KFH Games, including a self-extracting exe version.
28th August 2006: Spear Of Destiny Mappack Released
Megabyte has released a new set of 21 maps for Spear Of Destiny. It’s called the ‘Spear Of Destiny Mappack’ and all 21 levels are extensive, well designed and nicely decorated. There are no graphics or sound changes though some basic code changes like ceiling colours and par times have been made. Slight adjustments have been made to the status bar due to an extra score slot. The coding was done by WLHack. Will especially suit those who like the original Spear game. Also needs the audiohed.sod, audiot.sod, and vswap.sod files from the original full Spear Of Destiny game to play.

27th August 2006: Wolf 3D Mod Updates
Conner94 tells me that ‘War Storm’ has been restarted with a better, cleaner engine and is now being done by both himself and WL Hack. Screenshots will be available soon, along with feature listing, as soon as more of the graphics are finished.
Conner has also started a small map set containing ‘6 maps for Spear of Destiny’. It contains nothing but maps, no additional sounds, graphics or source changes.
Castle Basement
Guarded mainly by brown guards (watched over by a rare SS), the Castle Basement is a small section under the main castle with an open side allowing BJ to sneak in. Mostly dirty brick with small SS base points hidden behind pushwalls.
Castle 1st Floor
Similarly guarded, but you get a somewhat more ‘clean’ feeling when entering. This floor contains a prison block, small armory (machine gun, ammo) and some serious hallways divided by pillars where it’s quite easy to get sniped.
Mutant’s Tomb
A wasteland for those somewhat disobedient creations, this area is filled with scattered mutants with no real purpose in mind but to kill. A dirty area with little ammo, mazes, and many pushwalls.
Mutant’s Lair
Home to the UberMutant, the Mutant’s Lair is where the finished, Hitler-commanded beings from hell patrol to keep the SS safe from intrusion. Not a lot of ammo and a handful of pushwalls.
SS Patrol
A heavily guarded area with many SS officers being transfered from other SS base points around Germany, the brown guard is no longer a common sight. An armory with a chaingun and lots of ammo is located within. Tranz is stationed here.
SS Headquarters
The most heavily guarded area of all, and the station of the Death Knight. Several chaingun containing armories, and lots of SS and Officers. Beware, this is not for the faint of heart. First aid station can also be found.
22nd August 2006: Upcoming Addons Info
Thomas Weiling has given the following info about 2 of his upcoming addons:”

This game has been on hold since early july 2006, and I’ve no plans starting it up again right now.
FATFACE RETURNS (NEW MOD):
Missing Levels: 19
Levels in All: 23
Some small ceiling colour and music order regarding stuff to be done.
I’m currently taking a small break for this game, to focus on the Mapset, that has been talked about on the DieHard Wolfer’s Forums.

Thomas.“

21st August 2006: Archives – Volume I Released
Here’s a collection of 21 maps made and put together by ack for use with Spear Of Destiny. The collection is called ‘Archives – Volume I’. Some maps have been modified since they were first made but they are all extensive and well designed. They are also well detailed and quite atmospheric. They are fairly difficult to beat at times on the highest difficulty level. No new graphics.
ack’s Read Me:
Greetings (and prepare to be schooled… you have been warned).
For those of you who know me, you are already familiar with my archives. For those of you who aren’t, I will give you a little preamble. Over the past decade, I have made a lot more maps than I have ever released. Some were experimental in nature, others not good enough to use yet still good enough to use later on as a basis for another level, some were too advanced or too hard for the average player, and others were quite decent although never quite fit in with the sets on which I have worked on as of late. I have designed more maps than I care to admit, and I have pulled some of the more cerebral ones to make this set. You have been warned.
Cerebral, eh? Yeah… cerebral. Over the years I have learned a trick or two and many of which are evidenced in this set. I tried to use floor coding, object/wall placement and guard AI against the player in many situations. Yes, this set is hard if playing on the higher skills. You have been warned. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time, alerting the wrong guards, allowing certain guards to move about… all can have consequences that are dangerous to your health. At times the little things that cause variance in the game play are extremely evident and other times they are rather sublime. So be it. Should you only make attempt at this set, much of this will not be evident, so perhaps my mentioning this is a moot point, but I would be remiss if I didn’t say something.
In the real world, would you be stupid enough to enter through a door that may lock behind you if you didn’t already have the key? Don’t make that mistake here. Also, I should warn you that it is possible to block a couple of the secrets by killing an enemy right next to the path that the secret wall will take. There are not many instances where this is possible and most respects it is almost impossible or improbable to do. Still, it can happen. Saving is a must and saving in multiple slots is a bright thing to do. You have been warned. This is especially imperative when going for perfect games.

There should be ample ammo and health in open areas to get you through the game. For the average player, you should be able to play on the medium skill levels and have enough supplies to get through the game with a minimum of saving. There are stashes of ammo and health hidden in secret areas, but consider these a top up, if you will. Also, you will find a reasonable amount of treasure out in the open. I can’t stomach games that force the players to look for secrets to survive. That is just sooooo bush league.
Secret areas should be sought out. You will find your fair share of basic secrets that merely contain supplies or treasure. Some are aesthetically pleasing too. But, if you know me, you will soon realize that finding secrets will either lead you to some great areas that will not only help your score, but help you beat those bloody Nazis in the process. Yes, with floor coding and guard positioning, you just might find that the odd secret will make a hard area much easier. You have been told.
I hate sets that merely play out in front of the player. Those are the norm and I have grown very weary of that form of one-dimensional gameplay. In this set there are ambushes, guards coming at you from more than one angle at a time, interesting uses of open and closed areas, and the like. Expect anything. You may hear a guard cry out an alert, but never see him. Hear those doors opening and closing in the distance? It happens for a reason. You have been warned. Speaking of open areas, please remember it is not my fault if you kill too many guards in one area thus causing that visual bug where objects appear/disappear on your screen.
I broke some rules – sue me! lol. Any rule I broke was for the greater good of the level or the set as a whole. You may find some things that you truly don’t like about the gameplay. Since I cannot satisfy everyone (and I wasn’t going to try to satisfy just you, gentle reader), I tried to satisfy no one. Instead I strove to make a set of which I could be proud. Do I expect you to agree with my standards? Of course not. Those of you that need coding, audio, or graphic enhancements will be sorely annoyed by this mapset. The cure? Don’t play it. Delete it now. I know that there is still a core of hardened Wolfers out there that appreciate the original game in its original form. Much like acktung!, that is what this set is… the original game with my own personal spin added to the gameplay. If you don’t like it, that is fine by me, but please don’t criticize our passion for the original game.

Speaking of deviation against the norm, mutants have been introduced early and officers are introduced much later. This does cause some pain in the early levels, but in all honesty, seeing mutants in the slime areas makes more sense to me. Since the slime areas are the dungeons beneath the castle… well, you figure it out – lol. I used the Wolfenstein format for the intro elevators. In other words, you cannot enter the elevator at the beginning of the level. Shouldn’t be a major issue. Par times and ceiling colours are factory set – i.e. there have been no changes. That too takes away from the feel of the game, in my not-so-humble opinion.
Oh… right… par times. Let’s talk about those. In selecting these levels, I made sure that the original par times could be beat. Some levels even have subtle little ways to get a nice bonus if you beat the par time. I will not be offering any suggestions in that regard.
Is it just me, or is this getting way too freaking long?
And now, onto the obligatory crap contained in most readmes:
Installation: I have no idea and you are on your own
In event of finding bugs: Repeat after me, “ack never told me to play this and I am on my own.”
Thank you, thank you, thank you! goes to:
– iD Software
– anyone who worked on MapEdit, which was used to make the original maps
– Adam Biser for WDC, which was used to compile this collection (and for being an all-around good guy)
– Ariel & Wolfie3dfan for talking me out of making this a private release (ya, I was only going to share this set with my friends)
– Brian E. Lowe for his support of the community with his help, websites, and advice to all
– Steve and the Lady for being such great people and full of support
– anyone else who is asking themselves, ‘why the <bleep> didn’t ack thank me?’

This set can be posted anywhere. I don’t care. This file need not be attached. I don’t care. Use these maps and claim them to be your own. I don’t care. Manipulate them and use them in your own projects without giving me credit. I don’t care. Jimmy crack corn. I don’t care. The only thing I do care about is that you get some enjoyment out of playing these maps. If you do, then you have made my day. If you don’t, well… what can I say? I tried to make them fun.
The wanton rambling must cease.
G’night Gracie & Goodnight Mrs. Calabash (wherever you are)
ack

5th February 2006: Wolf3dsp Alternate Maps And Graphics Pack Info Update
Andy Nonymous has kindly supplied some further info on the ‘Wolf3dsp Alternate Maps and Graphics Pack’ posted yesterday:
Mapset 1: Nat’s Wolf3d levels by Nathaniel Roudiak-Gould – was eventually incorporated into Temporary Insanity
Mapset 2: W3DXLV11 by unknown. Andy added it to level 4 of Street Fighter II
Mapset 3: WOLF1 #1 by The Kid
Mapset 4: WOLF1 #2 by The Kid
Mapset 5: WOLFMM by unknown
Vswap 2: Bill Neisius’ PACman patch, which Colonel Bill combined with the Clown patch to make Wolfenstein 3-D meets Pacman and the Demon Clowns of Death
Andy converted all of these mapsets to v1.4 back in 1999 or so, fixed the walk-through walls on mapset 2 and corrected the start positions on mapset 5. Thanks to Andy for providing the info on this. All the sets mentioned above are available on our shareware addons page.
4th February 2006: Wolf3dsp Alternate Maps And Graphics Pack Found
This pack of Wolf3D alternate mapsets and graphics for shareware v1.0 was found on an archive listing files originally posted on the Ace Of Spades BBS. It dates from Feb 1993 and contains 6 mapsets and 2 vswaps, including the original Wolf3D files. Mapset 1 maps are on ‘Temporary Insanity’, while mapset 2 has only one new map, a much expanded original first level. Mapsets 3 and 4 are possibly the best of the sets and look like they’ve been made by an experienced mapper though I don’t recognize the levels. They are extensive and nicely decorated. Mapset 5 is not so good but playable. The alternate vswap has only one new actor (a Pacman clown) and a few changed portraits. Using DOS, the enclosed batch file will bring up a menu to select any of the available sets but Windows users will need to rename file endings manually. The pack was posted by a Dr. Nibble of Digital Power.
For convenience, I have since repackaged the best 2 of the sets so Windows users can simply unzip them and play. They are:
Dr. Nibble’s Shareware v1.0 Set 3
Dr. Nibble’s Shareware v1.0 Set 4
